SheepShaver and SUSE Linux?

Post by 24bit »

Hello SheepSaver experts,

I heard, that SS is much faster with a unix host system thanwith 32bit-windows. I am using SUSE Linux 11.0 and WinXP via grub (grand unified boot loader) on my Athlon64 X2, so I can switch between the OS's easily.

Could someone tell me, what collection of files I should use for SS to obtain the best results?
I know there are some libraries needed, but I couldn't figure out how to install those,
so far.
Is SheepShaver's sound system working with a Linux 2.6.25.5-1.1-default x86_64 environment?

I guess SheepShaver will operate rather similar in a Linux
host system as in OSX, as both are using a Unix kernel.

Greetings!

Have you studied the information linked from the SheepShaver Help Center on Gwenole Beauchesne's site?

Thank you Ronald,
I had a look at that one. Unfortunately there seems to be a known problem with
Suse Linux 2.6 kernels, the one I am using...

To whom it may concern

Hello,
I just wanted to report, that SheepShaver 2.6 is in operation with
Suse linux 11 on my AthlonX2-64 host system.
I had to install Basilisk II first, to get SheepShaver working.
Probably some needful routines are not included in the SheepShaver
install package.
As I already pointed out, I found OS7.6 with the 4MB ROM to be the
most practicable solution.
SheepShaver's sound output is not working properly with my GF8100
chipset, it is only producing a queer oscillating noise.
This is most likely due to the chipset ( and not SheepShaver's fault)
as sound is OK with e.g. an Intel945 chipset.
Besides that sound theme everything is perfect.
A really heartly THANK YOU to all people who created this outstanding
software and donated it to the public!
