Care with automatic system cleaners

Post by EdWeB »

Probably stating the obvious but be careful if you use an automatic system cleaner such as MacKeeper. I couldn't get SheepShaver to run in Yosemite but as it turns out MacKeeper was stripping the PPC code (Duh). Turning off the binary cutter prevents this. If the code gets stripped then reinstalling SheepShaver from fresh downloaded image gets it working again. Just an observation.

Very good advice, especially pointing out the PPC stripping issues.

Also, be careful using MacKeeper in general; it does bundle together a number of decent products, but has been linked to some very questionable advertising practices, which raises the question of how trustworthy the product is as well, if its owners consistently allow their partners to peddle it as scareware.
