SheepShaver and modern Linuxes

Post by joedemo42 »

Hi all,

I'm having a little trouble with SheepShaver on modern Linuxes (say, Debian jessie). I'm able to run the SheepShaver Version from this thread.

However, I'm running in some troubles. First of all, I'm not able to get networking to work.
- SLIRP crashes SheepShaver (regardless of ignoresegfault and whatnot)
- sheep_net doesn't build
- Creation of tap devices with tunctl or openvpn doesn't seem to result in /dev/tap0 - it does appear in ifconfig.

So, I decided to build SheepShaver myself from the latest source on git. Building it was no problem. However, it crashes when trying to load the very same ROMs that I've used successfully with the version from Cat_7.

I even tried to run the version from Cat_7 on Debian Squeeze since bmc5311 built sheep_net for that, but seems like Cat_7's SheepShaver doesn't idle properly on Squeeze.

So.... what do I do now?
To summarize my goal: Most recent SheepShaver on Debian Jessie with networking, preferably via tap since I want Layer 2.

Any input on how to achieve this is very welcome.

Cheers,

Try doing a 32-bit build. SLIRP tends to work fine in 32-bits.

Been there, done that. For some reason it didn't idle that well.
Also, I'd like to avoid SLIRP and use tap to do Layer 2.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to this thread.
