Where can I get the 6 GB disk image?

I've tried downloading the one linked to in the Windows set up guide, but all that downloads is a 28K file and obviously will not extract. Where can I find a working drive file or how can I make one from within Windows?

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pear ... ib.img.bz2
will download a compress empty image. You need e.g. the Winrar program to unpack the .bz2 file to its original size of 6Gb.

"and obviously will not extract"

really? :(

No matter how hard WinRAR tries, it just cannot turn 28,000 bytes into 6,000,000,000. ;) 8O

I think there is something wrong with my internet connection. The link that Cat_7 gave also doesn't work. I click on the link and the download finishes instantly (without actually downloading anything...). Maybe my ISP is blocking the file due to the size?

Interesting.

The disk image is totally empty, so compressing down to a tiny size is normal.

It just takes a long time for WinRAR to expand.

I think, anyhow. I'll test both of the images after class this afternoon...

I think that was the issue. It took WinRAR about 5 minutes to extract. I had previously thought it froze and was forcing it to quit.

[EDIT]
Huh... OS X is installing now. :| I guess I need to learn patience.

Excellent!

Someone once told me that expanding a 5 KB file into a 6 GB file in a few seconds would cause stress to the hard drive.

So maybe it is good that it takes awhile.

Maybe a little note to go along with the link? I misunderstood what was written on the set up page. I read that it would take a while to extract and was expecting that. The file *IS* 6 GB after all... I wasn't expecting the file to be so small. It does make sense in hindsight, but I thought the download was failing. I was expecting the download to take more than an hour.

I will make a note in the guide to that effect. Thanks for the tip!

I'm glad that the guide was able to (eventually) show you how to set up PearPC. It is sort of rough.

Actually, it really wasn't all that rough. It was pretty clear, save for my expectation of a larger file to download.

Hi there.
I can't open the file linked in the setup guide with either StuffIt nor UltimateZip.
The second source linked within this thread is just deflating.

Jens,

What is your host system? I made that archive in winrar in Windows XP. Can you try Winrar?

Hi.
I ran the above-mentioned programs on Win2k, and atm I don't have the possibility to try WinXP.
Both programs which I tried support .rar archives, but I'll try WinRar in a moment.

*edit*

WinRar tells me the drive is full although there are fifteen and 229 gigs of free space on drives I tested it.
Both are 400 gig drives formatted with NTFS.

*edit*

WinRar seems to be very picky about its algorithms as are other programs.
I just managed to open a file I kept for more than a year without being able to open it with UltimateZip or StuffIt, and right now WinRar is unpacking its content.

Maybe try using 7zip? It is versatile. I like it:

It really seems to me that .rar is very special...:
This one works.

Not really needed as the other file is already unpacked, but nice to know.

Thanks for your support. :-)

I'm happy to hear that.

Good luck with PearPC. And please don't be shy about posting your experiences with the emulator. As you can see, the PearPC forum is very empty. It needs some content!
