SheepShaver

History

SheepShaver began life as a run-time environment, which allowed users to run Macintosh programs on PowerPC systems running Linux or BeOS. It was developed by Christian Bauer, the primary developer of Basilisk and Basilisk II.

In 2003, Gwenole Beauchesne ported SheepShaver to boot as a PPC 604 Mac emulator for x86 Linux. In November 2003, he reported "[o]n a P4 @ 1.8 GHz, Speedometer 4.x reports speeds around 1.7x of a real Quadra 605 ."

SheepShaver will currently boot up to MacOS 8.6.

A guide to building SheepShaver can be found here. Progress reports can be found here. Watch for updates over here. Some scripts, created by Jim Watters, that will build the emulator in Linux can be downloaded right here.
