E-Maculation News: December 2004
Happy Agnostica!
For those who care, Darek Mihocka will send you a free copy of Mac OS 7 or 8 if you send him some stamps. The scoop on that is over here.
If all you care about is the future of Mihocka's company, here's the scoop:
“Since the final release of the SoftMac XP product almost three years ago, a free release available from our web site, we've been in an R&D mode developing new ideas and products. The time has now come to completely phase out our Apple Macintosh emulators so that we can move on to new things which I'll discuss in the future. SoftMac, as with our other older products, will continue to be available freely on the web. But as of December 31 we are closing down the SoftMac online store.”
Readers of the site who have arrived since the release of PearPC might not realize that Mihocka is popularly perceived as a bit of an asshole. I'd recommend getting this stuff off of eBay.
Longtime readers will also be interested to know that Microcode Solutions, the creators of Fusion-PC and home of Mihocka rival Jim Drew is now, according to Drew, “primarily a military microcontroller development and testing company.”

Some Basilisk Stuff!
Might also want to check out the Basilisk II for Windows Revived thread over in the forum. It's kinda long, but I managed to ignore it when it first got going. Sorry.
Regarding it, Gwenolé wrote on SourceForge last month:
“It is now possible to fully build a version of Basilisk II for Windows through Cygwin. It's not complete yet (misses bits from Lauri”s) but it can work through SDL graphics. And, most importantly, JIT is the newest one and run-time resolution & depth switching work.“

New SheepShaver forum moderator Cat_7 has created a user guide for Windows SheepShaver users. You might recall that Cat previously made a really killer guide for Linux users. Check it out, and snag a blank 500 MB installation disk for use with the emulator over here.
