Emulation Pack!

Jim “slim” Watters has updated his “Macintosh Emulation Power Pack.” You can find the package - a collection of helpful emulators and utilities - over here. The best part of the pack is the collection of Basilisk II builds for every purpose (for example, build 94 from years and years ago is the last version to support classic emulation, while JIT release 3 which is also quite old might be faster than the current release).

Check it out!

Meanwhile: Later this week I will have internet access in my new apartment and will finally be able to carry out a few updates of my own!

Bring out Yer Screenshots!

Sigmund really wants to see screenshots of your emulators in action. Please post them in the forum as soon as you can. Thanks!

A Year of No Execute!!

Darek “Dirty Secrets” Mihocka’s emulation themed blog “No Execute” has reached the ripe old age of one year! To celebrate, Darek has published an entry that he hopes will show his readers how to program their own emulators! It’s a very compelling read. Here’s an excerpt:

“case opLdaAbs16:
addr = peekw(PC);
PC += 2;
A = peekb(addr);
goto case(peekb(PC++));”

Read more over here.

There’s no denying it… “No Execute” is a compelling read. I’ll be sending Darek some Starbucks gift-bucks to thank him for his hard work!

Mini vMac

I compiled the new Mini vMac snapshot and have put up a download link over on the forum. Check it out. I only included the Mac II emulation and not the new resolution or memory stuff. Annnnd, I don’t have the proper ROM to test it out… so maybe I fucked up when I was compiling. Who knows? Who knows?

Mini vMac Update!

Lots of info about the current state of Mini vMac over at the official site. It’s mostly about the Mac II emulation, which is “perfectly useable for long stretches of time.”

Check it out.

SheepShaver: Chinese Guides!

I’ve uploaded a pair of SheepShaver guides written in Chinese. You can find a general setup here, and a guide to getting a ROM via TomeViewer over here.

The guides were written by the inimitable Felix Ding around 2005 (so they are out of date). He ran the old PearPC: China website, but eventually took his site offline because people asked him too many stupid questions.

(fun fact: I spent August 2005 hanging out with Felix Ding in Shanghai!)

SheepShaver Guide!

So I’ve written a little “quick” setup guide for SheepShaver for Windows. And our man Cat_7 even did some proofreading and made some revisions. It’s a nice guide, I think, and should help new users and those who haven’t used emulators in awhile. I even made a little on-the-side guide about how to legally acquire a ROM for SheepShaver using a setup of Basilisk II.

(fun fact: I have had fun creating help guides for WINDOWS users, but over the last month, fully 27.3% of the traffic on this site has been served to Macintosh users… Windows users account for 65% of the traffic here… down from 80% just three years ago)

I think I might be finished writing that sort of content for the site. I tried writing a guide for SoftMac, but that emulator freezes up when I try to install System 7. And the current beta doesn’t work at all.

Would maybe like to get some benchmarks up… just for fun.
