I did not realize that you use the SheepShaver Wrapper. My instructions were for the regular SheepShaver setup. But you got it working your way.

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

100 GB? I am not sure MacOS 9 can use a disk that size. I also do not know why you want everything on one single disk. After copying everything over, you need check if the System Folder has its icon. If not, open the System Folder to show the System and Finder files inside and close the System Folde...

Things are much simpler now in Sonoma. You can make a new empty sparsebundle image using Disk Utility. File menu > New Image > Blank Image... Choose Name and Size Then: Format: Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Encryption: none Partitions: No partition map Image format: sparse bundle image format A...

Re: OS X Ventura

The issue was solved since December 2022. The latest build is dated 28 February 2024. If the Settings menu is greyed out, you do not run the latest SheepShaver build. Maybe you have several different builds installed and accidentally launch an older build?

Which is your host system (Windows or macOS)? Which is the location where you try to install the games to? Did installing other software / games work as expected? OK. If the file ~/.sheepshaver_prefs was the file that you edited with "jit false" before you tried the no-JIT build, then apparently that build does not work for you with OCLP and Sanoma. The prefs file location issue is a little complicated: It used to be ~/.sheepshaver_prefs Builds betw...

The "SheepShaver-noJIT" build worked with Ventura, but it did not work for "PBobbenB" with Sonoma. @ PBobbenB In the past two years different SheepShaver builds wrote a new prefs file to different locations. To make sure you edited the right prefs file that all builds will use, d...

We have seen various issues with SheepShaver that only happen on machines that run macOS using OCLP.

@ sykogee
Do you also use OCLP to run Sonoma on your MacBook Pro?

Yes, it is the same error "sykogee" got, also in macOS 14.x (Sonoma) on Intel. I wonder if earlier SheepShaver builds behave the same in Sonoma on Intel: The 1 August 2021 build is interesting because in the next (22 January 2022) build an issue with RAM settings was solved. Download: http...

Re: SheepShaver on Intel Mac Sonoma 14.3 opens then closes

One would expect BasiliskII and SheepShaver to use memory in a similar way, but I really do not know. I recall reports of the "cannot map RAM" issue only with SheepShaver, usually on Linux or Windows hosts and rarely on OSX/macOS. Restarting the host usually solves the issue. Restarting do...

Re: SheepShaver on Intel Mac Sonoma 14.3 opens then closes

SheepShaver not only needs a contiguous block of addressable RAM, it will only use specific addresses. If anything occupies part of that, even when it uses only little memory, SheepShaver will not run. The size of the RAM setting cannot be the issue, SheepShaver can run with up to 1024 MB RAM. I am ...

Re: SheepShaver on Intel Mac Sonoma 14.3 opens then closes

The reported memory error probably points to the cause. The RAM setting cannot be the problem, as it is set to the very low default value (16 MB). The problem could be that SheepShaver is trying to use memory that is already in use by other processes. This is a known problem caused by the way SheepS...

That is the prefs file that SheepShaver normally creates when it is first launched. and not yet configured. The only thing I can imagine is that something is wrong with the rom file. Try:Trash this file, download "newworld86.rom.zip" again from Redundant Robot, unzip it, rename it, and the...

Did you have the new disks initialized at startup and do they appear on the SheepShaver desktop? SheepShaver cannot see disk images as hard disks, it will always see them as (large) floppy disks. Disk Setup cannot see them. (On a real Mac, Disk Setup can only see true hard drives on a SCSI connectio...

Re: SheepShaver on Intel Mac Sonoma 14.3 opens then closes

There are two possible causes I can think of. 1. Is your ROM file named exactly "Mac OS ROM"? If you renamed the file in the Finder, the file name extension may be hidden and not removed. You can check and correct this in Finder Info panel for the file: Select the file and hit command-I 2....
