Re: How to run my Macintosh software in vMac

Depends on their history. If that hard disk is formatted HFS or HFS+ and if the the files have never been on anything other than a Mac file system while being copied from one disk to another, the files will still have their resource forks.

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

As far as I understand the issues discussed, this is the status with current source: SheepShaver On both Intel and arm64 build machines it is possible to build a universal SheepShaver . BasiliskII On an Intel build machine It is not possible to build BasiliskII. On an arm64 build machine it is possi...

Re: Big Sur Basilisk II icon

I like the idea, but in this form the images are not yet usable as icons. I converted your .png images to .icns icons and compared them to the current icons at 64x64. https://www.emaculation.com/basilisk/BII-icons-old-new.png At this size, your icons look rather pale and with little contrast and thi...

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

Building universal binaries is possible on arm64? I will leave my current builds of SheepShaver and BasiliskII as they are, with the comment about FPU in BasiliskII on arm64. First week next month I expect to get my M1 iMac. I will then need some time for migration and getting everything working, so...

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

This is what kanjitalk755 wrote earlier in this thread: The arm64 part of BII build requires MPFR library. If an M1 Mac, you can easily install it with Homebrew. $ brew install mpfr But I don't know how to install the library for arm64 on an Intel machine using Homebrew. Does anyone know? And this i...

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

I understand that this is now merged into the master branch.

While I am still on Intel, I will need to install GMP / MPFR library for arm64 manually if I want to build BasiliskII for arm64.
How do I do that?

Weird. On my Mac the sound plays exactly the same in both cases.

Are you running SheepShaver in Windows?

Re: Startup.wav is low-pitched when using a different sound

What do you mean? Is the sound different when the .wav file is started directly on the host or when used as "startup.wav" file in the same folder as SheepShaver in order to play at SheepShaver startup?

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

I assume that the MPFR library is needed for building.
Cannot MPFR for arm64 simply be copied from an arm64 machine to an Intel machine?

(BTW: In 5 to 6 weeks I expect to receive the M1 iMac I ordered.)

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

At this stage I think it is better not to post new builds yet.

I will add to my latest BasiliskII build the warning to use it on Apple Silicon with

Code: Select all

cpu 3
fpu false

As the FPU issue is with BasiliskII only in the current master, would it be OK to post a BasiliskII build with this solution?

Re: No sound when playing Puppet Motel

Yes, better not downgrade QuickTime. QT versions should be backward compatible. You can upgrade QT if needed for some software, but note that QT 4.1.2 is the latest version that is compatible with SheepShaver.

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

What will be the properties of the resulting builds, SheepShaver and BasiliskII, x86_64 and arm64? FPU working in all four? BasiliskII: No JIT compiler in both x86_64 and arm64? SheepShaver: JIT compiler available in both x86_64 and arm64? Edit: Do I understand correctly that only BasiliskII changed...

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

When BasiliskII works fine natively on arm64 there is no reason for the user to try and run it with Rosetta. And BasiliskII will run so fast on any arm64 machine that JIT is not needed. Is it possible to to make it so that a universal build uses different solutions for FPU and JIT for the two archit...

Re: Sheepshaver/BasiliskII development and supported platforms

I myself disabled JIT in BasiliskII in the past because of stability issues and I never again enabled it since. On my late 2013 iMac I do not miss it. And in our BasiliskII setup guide we (still) advise to not enable JIT. I do not know how others feel about removing JIT from BasiliskII for macOS per...

Yes, I saw it a while ago and I tried it. It is nice work, based on BasiliskII. But features and performance are very limited compared to the BasiliskII and SheepShaver versions we support here.
