Re: Midi for Mini vMac

From https://www.gryphel.com/c/mail/v9.html#m176 : I can think of two reasons for such jitter. First, OS X is not a real time operating system. The operating system will give Mini vMac time to run when it feels like it. To get uninterrupted output for the emulation of built in sound, there is a buff...

Re: can't import files into Mini vMac 36.04

what would be the most straightforward way for me to create a writeable MacHD disk that contains all the programs I have on my current MacHD disk? Is there a way to copy the programs over, or do I have to start from the beginning? Since you have found the problem is not about Disk Copy 4.2 format, ...

Another option is to use MiniUnZp, a simple tool for unzipping a compressed archive created by OS X. It is very unpolished, but it functions.

Re: Mini vMac 36 officially released

Something's been changed with the graphics mode such that if you select a non-standard resolution (380p in my case) the lines get drawn to the screen correctly pre-4.0, but the text does not. I'm not seeing this. What specific compile options are you using? Also, what specific development environme...

Re: Mini vMac 36 officially released

Mini vMac II now no longer shuts down gracefully prior to System 4.0 Are you sure it ever did? Macintosh II shipped with System 4.1, so anything prior to System 4.0 predates the machine. It doesn't work for me on some old Mini vMac versions and old System versions. Do you have a specific Mini vMac ...

Re: Mini vMac 36 officially released

So something about this version of Mini vMac doesn't want to function with the Intel Iris Pro. Thanks for the report. It is good that the default for Mini vMac 36 is '-gse 0', which sounds like it should work most of the time. Unfortunately, I don't have a dual GPU MacBook Pro to debug this on. Per...

Re: can't import files into Mini vMac 36.04

I use it to be able to load up my pristine DC42 images knowing that they won't be modified I get similar functionality by locking the disk image in the host operating system, and then keeping an md5 checksum in a separate file. (I have a script that creates or checks the checksum.) A disadvantage m...

Re: can't import files into Mini vMac 36.04

It does sound like this could be a Disk Copy 4.2 image, which by default is read only in Mini vMac. Though it became read only in Mini vMac 3.2, so it should be the same in your 3.3.2, unless it is a variation. You can test this by specifying -sony-sum 1 -sony-tag 1 in the Advanced Variations Servic...

Re: can't import files into Mini vMac 36.04

Another thing to check: does it work to use importfl to import to a fresh blank disk image, from the Blanks archive . That would tell whether there is an issue with your MacHD disk, or a more general problem. Also, have you tried recently using importfl with Mini vMac 3.3.2, to make sure that it sti...

Re: Mini vMac 36 officially released

Hmm... if you targeted MinGW, you should be able to get similar optimization settings for gcc under Linux and OS X, and llvm shouldn’t be much different. Compiling with any version of gcc should usually work without problem. I'm not so enthusiastic about providing support for the percentage where i...

Re: Mini vMac 36 officially released

It's not a floppy disk anymore. Yes, the source for Mini vMac is now a simple ".tgz" archive, which is more convenient for experienced programmers (and more convenient for the variations service), but it does make it harder for other people to compile. The brief explanation on the Buildin...

Mini vMac 36 officially released

Mini vMac 36.04 is now officially released. That is, it is now declared to be the stable version, with no change made to the source code or compiled applications. The old Mini vMac 3.5.8 is still available for download, in case there are any serious problems with the new version. For this release I...

Mini vMac 36 is now in beta. The fourth beta version is just released, and it is ready for general testing. Touche! Sorry, that should be read as a question of how to improve the documentation. Of course, the best way to improve the documentation is to make it unnecessary. Re: Running Arkanoid

I'm running on MacOs 10.13.6 High Sierra with Mini vMac version minivmac-3.5.8-mc68. The first problem is that vMac does not find the ROM image if I place it in the same folder as 'Mini vMac.app' file. This is due to the Path Randomization misfeature added in macOS Sierra (10.12). There are some wo...

Re: Prince Of Persia 2 The Shadow And The Flame

Why is Mini vMac treating above resolutions in a special way? Mini vMac doesn't. It seems more likely the game has special cases for the most common screen resolutions. (Perhaps it has optimized code for those cases, that might go more directly to the graphics hardware.) According to a comment on a...

For the command-shift-5 and command-shift-6 keyboard shortcuts to work for ClipIn and ClipOut, DAFKEY needs to be installed in the System file. (DAFKEY is a set of simple FKEYs to open items in the Apple menu.)

Re: Mini vMac varserv is PAID now?

This past week I have set up a computer dedicated to doing compiles for the Mini vMac Variations Service. A requested variation is now usually available in two minutes, down from hours. This is announced in Gryphel Project project news for November 5, 2017.

Re: Mini vMac varserv is PAID now?

I think that if you pay at least $2 to the Gryphel Project, you should be able to use the Stable Variations Service for free like it was before, because if you must use multiple builds for emulating different machines then you must sponsor every one of them, and you pay even more. Just my opinion o...

You need 32-Bit QuickDraw for thousands or millions of colors in System 6.0.8 on a Macintosh II. It is available from the System installer, under Customize.

I think I have a fix (changing the command line arguments generated by the Mini vMac build system). The fix should be included in the n...

Re: Trouble extracting sit files on MiniVMac

As mentioned on the Stuffit Expander page of the Gryphel Project, version 5.5 is the last that will run on Macintosh 680x0 (but not a Macintosh Plus). This is what I use in these situations - it seems to work well enough in the current (incomplete) Mini vMac Macintosh II emulation . Also mentioned i...

The Mini vMac build system does support nmake, by using the

Paul, personally I've been impressed that, glacial or not, you've kept at it for all these years. Thanks. Funny thing is: I was looking at the code for your variation service recently and thought "Hmm... I wonder if I should add my quarter QHD screen size?" -- then I looked at how you'd d...
