Re: SheepShaver for Linux
I've compiled some new Linux builds of both SheepShaver and BasiliskII: https://github.com/vasi/macemu/releases/tag/2019-07-13 . Feel free to test them out, and maybe link them in the top post.

Re: SheepShaver and modern Linuxes
Try doing a 32-bit build. SLIRP tends to work fine in 32-bits.

Re: Basilisk II on Arm Ubuntu
You could also just build a 32-bit version, it should run fine in multilib (32-bit compat layer in Ubuntu).rickyzhang wrote:slirp module dones't work for 64bit compiler. If you have 64bit ARM like Qualcomm dragonboard, you need to switch to sheep-net module.

Re: Crashing when trying to load webpages [Ubuntu 15.10/SS 2
The networking code in SheepShaver is not 64-bit clean, and can crash in a 64-bit environment. If you're running a 64-bit SheepShaver binary, try the 32-bit version instead.

Re: Classic Game in PearPC - Classic Environment
For many older games that had Windows versions, you'll have more luck emulating that than the Mac version. CrossOver/WineSkin/Cider generally do a very good job of this.

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X
You can install Xcode 3.2 on 10.9 (using some tricks), which allows you to build for 10.4-10.6. There are several guides for how to do this floating around, I think I used this one: http://lapcatsoftware.com/articles/xcode3onmountainlion.html . I recommend installing it in a custom prefix like /Xcod...

Re: New OSX build for testing
Yup! The guest OS doesn't even know what underlying block format the virtual disk uses: fixed size, sparse or VHD. Nothing you can do inside OS 9 will make a sparsebundle change into a fixed size disk.Ronald P. I've just verified that I can indeed install OS 9 onto a sparsebundle created in Disk Utility: - In the New Image dialog, I choose: Size: 500 MB Format: Mac OS Extended Partitions: No partition map Image format: Sparsebundle disk image. - After booting the OS 9 ISO, I select my disk in the Finder, c...

Re: Idea: CHD support?
Ooops, I take it back, I think VHD does not actually support compression, just sparseness. *sigh* Qemu's qcow2 format would be great, but they still haven't released the library to allow access to it, although this was planned months ago.

Re: Idea: CHD support?
Ok, so there are a couple of problems with this: MESS doesn't expose the CHD-handling functions via a library so that other programs can use it. And the CHD-related code is pretty strongly integrated within MESS, there's no easy way to extract it without also including several other bits of MESS. Wh...

Re: Idea: CHD support?
Hi, I'm the one who implemented sparsebundle support. I don't know anything about CHD, is it documented anywhere? Links would be great. If it's not too much work, I'll take a look at adding support.

Re: The mysteries of the PowerPC Internet Explorer and Netsc
Are you running SheepShaver in 64-bit mode? The slirp networking code is known to be buggy on 64-bit. It will sometimes work, but it's only a matter of luck. It's definitely on the list of things to fix.

Re: Windows compilation - missing flag?
Is this not solved following this instruction on the compiling page? (only in case you're using Cygwin 1.7 execute: “chmod 755 /usr/bin/set-gcc-default-3.sh” (etc) That didn't seem to do anything, actually! Apparently Cygwin 1.7 no longer sets up gcc-3 as an alternative "gcc": $ set-gcc-d...

Windows compilation - missing flag?
I just did a build on Windows, and was tripped up by the symbol _WIN32 not being defined by Cygwin 1.7's GCC 3. Once I forced it to be set, everything built fine: $ CC='gcc-3 -mwin32' CXX='g++-3 -mwin32' ./configure && make Do other people experience this issue? If so, we should probably add...

Re: Sparsebundle support, and new builds of SS & B2
My application opens the SheepShaver unix executable from the command line (using the "open -a /path/to/sheepshaver") command, so I assume I'm running it in 64-bit mode. Is there a command-line switch that would set it to 32-bit mode? You can check in Activity Monitor whether it's actuall...

Re: Sparsebundle support, and new builds of SS & B2
SheepShaver launches successfully only every SECOND time I launch it. Every OTHER time, it stops with the OS 8.6 splash-screen progress bar at around 10%. I then use Ctrl-Esc to shut it down - and then I restart it successfully. Then, the next time, it stops again at 10%. This pattern is absolutely...

in the SheepShaver Preferences, could it be programmed so that "mydisk.sparsebundle" can be selected, and not open the contents of the package? Oops! I remembered to make this change for SheepShaverLauncher, but not for the built-in preferences. See the issue here: https://github.com/cebi...

Sparsebundle support, and new builds of SS & B2
I've implemented support for sparsebundles in SheepShaver and BasiliskII, and wanted to share, so I've made a few builds for you fine folks! 'Sparsebundles' are an alternative, more flexible format of disk images. Without them, you have to decide in advance exactly how much space you want to use. So...

Re: SS on Xubuntu 12.04 Segmentation fault (core dump)
There's a known bug with SheepShaver and recent versions of GCC. Try compiling with GCC 4.5:
Code: Select all
$ sudo apt-get install g++-4.5
$ CC=gcc-4.5 CXX=g++-4.5 ./configure ...
$ make
etc

Re: Problem building SheepShaver on OSX 10.6.4
Hi, However, I had to compile SDL with setting to 10.5 and remove all targets except ppc, i386 and x86_64. Trying to compile from 10.4 results in errors stating gcc 4.2 doesn't support the ppc architecture. If you want to compile against the 10.4 SDK, you should be able to change the build settings...
