Re: Cannot map second Kernel Data area:487
Well, Sheepshaver's fixed itself again. I'd be lying if I claimed to understand why, or why it quit to begin with. I haven't changed anything on my system, but I copied the whole Sheepshaver folder to a flash drive, which I hope will help the next time it decides to stop working. Thanx for answering...

Re: Cannot map second Kernel Data area:487
I've used msconfig to shut down everything that loads on startup. I've tried every available option in the Sheepshaver GUI for memory allocation. I'm still getting the alert, and Sheepshaver will not load at all.

Cannot map second Kernel Data area:487
I'm getting this error again. After running for months, it suddenly reappeared yesterday. I reinstalled everything and it went away for almost 24 hours. Now it's back. I've reinstalled the GTK runtimes 4 times. I've disabled my AV, and used msconfig to disable every startup program I have. I've inst...

Vertical Magenta bars on display
I don't know if this is the proper forum, but since I'm running Sheepshaver under Vista, I'll give it a shot. After many tries and much assistance from the group, I have Sheepshaver running on my Vista Home Premium system. The only glitch now is that if I select millions of colors, the display is OK...

Upon further investigation, SoftMac comes with a transfer utility on the utilities disk image. I copied this to my emulated HDD and it needs the Windows Acces box checked in order to function. So, apparently it serves a similar purpose to My Computer in Sheepshaver and Basilisk, you just need the ut...

Accessing Windows Files in SoftMac
In the properties dialog for SoftMac, I have a check box to enable Windows File Access. Is this similar to the My Computer in Basilisk and Sheepshaver? I notice that when I enable this function by checking the box, I still see no way to access my Windows files within SoftMac. What am I doing wrong h...

Sheepshaver won't run after Vista reinstall
After much effort, I finally had Sheepshaver running OK on my Vista system. Unfortunately, my system crashed and I'm in the process of reinstalling everything. Now I can't start the GUI because it says it can't find an entry point g_assert in libglib-2.2-0.dll. Before that, it was demanding a whole ...

Mac OS 9.0.4 Updater
I found the updater here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60791
Since it is offered gratis from a legit Mac site, I hardly see the harm anyone does by stating that they have it. I thought the purpose of this forum was to help each other out.

I finally got everything up and running with Mac OS 9. That Kernel Access error popped up once, but after restarting several times, it went away and hasn't returned (so far anyway). Unless there's some compelling reason, I don't intend to push beyond OS 9.0 , as I'd hate to hose things up again. Tha...

What OS will work?
I obtained an image of Mac OS 9.2.1, and attempted to boot from it. I can open and view the files on the image in Basilisk, so I know the image is readable, although I don't believe Basilisk supports installation of it. When I attempt to boot Sheepshaver using the image, it tells me "This start...

I have no idea why the Kernel Data error went away. I haven't changed anything in my startup or services, at least not that I'm aware of, it just seems to have fixed itself. I had Sheepshaver running well on this same PC under XP, but I can't remember how I got it going. I thought I'd used a Basilis...

Sheepshaver boots and closes immediately
I finally got past the problems I was having with this error "Cannot map second Kernel Data area: 487", although I have no idea how. The problem just seems to have fixed itself somehow. Now, I can get Sheepshaver to load as far as the Mac splash screen, and it just shuts down. I'm using a ...

I keep getting the same error with Vista, and nothing anyone has suggested seems to work. I can't run in any compatibility mode, I disabled everything using msconfig, still no go. It has to be Vista related as opposed to hardware related since I ran Sheepshaver on the same system with XP before goin...

Can't start Sheepshaver under Vista
I've tried all the suggestions and available downloads here, and I still get "Cannot map second Kernel Data area" 487". I execute Sheepshaver, and it goes straight to the error, no activity or display whatsoever between. I've tried all available compatibility modes with no luck. Since...

Sheepshaver error in Vista
No matter what I try, whenever I try to run SheepShaver under Vista Home Premium, I get this error:
"Cannot map second Kernel Data area: 487."
, whatever that means.
I never had a problem on the same PC running XP.
Any suggestions?
Thanx:

Black screen with 1.0
I got rid of Vista and went with XP, so some of the suggestions don't apply to me. After having tried everything that has been suggested, along with anything I could come up with on my own, I still get the black screen when attempting to run 1.0. I can still run my older version (0.8), as well as Sh...

Black screen
Thanx for the advice. I use the Explorer frequently, and it hasn't had any effect on this issue. I can view the image created in the setup process for version 1.0 as a drive under version 0.9 with no problem, although I can't boot from it. That seems to indicate that it is a valid image. I also have...

Still get black screen
I hope this is posting to the right place. I've been running Basilisk ver 0.9 for quite a while with no problem. When I saw that a newer version was available, I decided to try it. I followed all the instructions on set up, volume creation, etc., and everything works as advertized until I attempt to...
