My question is: if the JIT compiles on Linux x86, then is it possible the issue might lie with the compiler/Xcode put out by Apple--in other words, if it were possible to cross-compile PearPC...

With the disks, I am referring to my hard drive images. OS 8.2d8 was a beta version and never released directly to the public (if my memory serves me correctly, it became OS 8.5). Well, as others have stated, you'll need a ROM image from a vintage Mac. 8.1 runs fine in Basilisk II, though you'll need to make sure the ROM came from a Motorola 68LC040 or 68040 Mac capable of running OS 8 (e.g. LC 575, most Quadra models).
