Weirdly, the "My computer" folder still had the software I'd installed previously. Not sure how I did that one ...
Anyway, thanks all!

Re: BasiliskII for Windows
Ronald: I had made the file "read only," so that wasn't the problem. Cat7 -- were you referring to the Quadra 650 ROM? That had the same "The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive" issue when using the old version...

Re: BasiliskII for Windows
Further information: Using my old version of Basilisk II (from 1/15/10), I got a little further but encountered a new problem: An error message on startup saying "The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive." Do I need a diff...

Re: BasiliskII for Windows
Having a similar problem -- gray screen on startup, doesn't load the OS 8.1 iso file. Similar system, Windows 10 on a 64k machine, but not trying to load from a CD. (To provide a little more information on my particular setup, Basilisk II had been working fine for years, then suddenly couldn't find ...

Re: BasiliskII for Windows
Thanks -- I found out the mistake I'd made, the "applications" I was trying to open were actually folders containing applications. Once I used HFVExplorer to open them and extract the apps the latter "worked." (Some worked, others seem to be unstable and crashing, but that's anot...

Re: basiliskiigui won't open, did previously
I hadn't tried that, but I did discover something big I'd overlooked. The SDL library version I was using was the 32-bit version, and I've got 64-bit Windows. Once I switched to the 64-bit version things started working. Wasn't able to use the latest version of Basilisk II, but a little monkeying ar...

basiliskiigui won't open, did previously
Ugh. Had an apocalyptic time with the last Windows 10 update and wound up having to reinstall the system. Unfortunately Basilisk II was uninstalled, and when I try to open up the BasiliskIIGUI the program starts opening and then does nothing. Something about the new install isn't working with it, ev...

Re: BasiliskII for Windows
Thanks -- yes, the problem was I was being too conservative and it worked much better when I used the newest build instead of the "start with this" build. (I'm having trouble remembering, but when I had problems I went back rather than forward in builds, which again wasn't the right thing ...

Re: BasiliskII for Windows
Well, I'm trying to re-install; had had good luck with my Toshiba netbook running XP, but I'm encountering a new problem with my new System 7 machine. I got the black screen with the "install this first" build, and so went back to 142 as suggested. Making good headway until I hit the "...
