Re: Qemu-system-m68k for macOS to run MacOS 7.1-8.1

Oh wow! awesome to see QEMU can now Boot the Toolbox ROM and boot Mac OS and AU/X, im going to have lots of fun playing with this :) for what its worth I ran into the sad mac issues also, but compiling from the source code solved that issue for me I noticed even in the OS X precompiled download the ...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

indeed Mac OS X Server 1.2v3 is officially compatible with all PowerMac G4s up to the GigE G4. good to know better PMU emulation is being worked on :) but last time I saw mac99p it was masquerading as a PowerMac3,6 (MDD) which breaks compatibility with some older Apple OSs like early OS X and some e...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

thats good to know :) ill have to play with some earlier versions of OS X Server/Rhaposdy :) it would be nice to get OS X Server 1.2v3 booting on the mac99 (sawtooth) machine option now :) as well as figure out why it runs so slow I suspect its something to do with the clock as while i can drag wind...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

im not sure when this fix happened but at some point QEMUs ADB implementation got fixed so that now mouse and keyboard work in OS X Server 1.2v3 so now I can login and do stuff! :) it only works on the g3beige machine type sadly still.the keyboard and mouse do work on mac99 but OS X server 1.2v3 sti...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Just a quick heads up I compiled QEMU from the latest source code on the main branch today and it looks like the VGA patches have made it in :) i can change rez etc in OS X (not tested any other OSs yet but id expect those work too) this is the g3beige machine btw, im sure mac99 will work too https:...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

are you sure your actually using the 6500s ROM? as simply changing its name to Mac OS ROM and renaming the other stock ROM to something else wont change what OF loads as OF loads the file with the tbxi signature blessed onto it regardless of name or location. so unless you blessed the 6500 ROM it it...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

just some random info that may help you all. one i wanted to mention that in old world PCI macs that the Mac OS ROM is presented as a node in the Open firmware device tree (usually at the root) like so "/AAPL,ROM" with / being the root of the device tree. and you can then from OF boot from...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Again, is the same thing that we have commented before. Sawtooth will not do it for older MacOS versions than 9.1.x or 9.0.x with the special Sawtooth Mac OS ROM file "patch". For these older versions you really need a complete Gossamer g3beige emulated in QEMU (or the Yosemite G3 "b...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Just a heads up I installed OS X Sever 1.2V3 onto a real computer (a then imaged its hard drive and pointed qemu to that image and much to my surprise it did start booting but it hung just after detecting the ATA devices. I tried a couple builds of QEMU with no avail (all hang in the same place) (al...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Can PowerMac7,2/MacRISC4 be specified via -prom-env? If so, this would be a useful temp fix to test and see if anything else throws an error with that value corrected. I wonder if 10.5 would run any faster under this configuration.... a while back i did try and change it to MacRISC4 via OF but it s...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Quick test with the latest build posted here at the time of posting and I have to say QEMU has come a long way :) I noticed that the mac99p machine is emulating a PowerMac G4 MDD 10.1.3+ should be able to boot on that machine but iv yet to test it in the emulator (I know because iv booted 10.1.3/5 o...

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

with the DP2 3 etc i have found that using the default CPU option of G4 causes it to hang at the happy mac using a G3 CPU lets them boot up Hmmm is that not resolved by the latest ppc-for-2.8 branch at https://github.com/dgibson/qemu/commits/ppc-for-2.8? i was just testing it out on the QEMU Pre2.8...

got some good news with the same build i spoke of in my last OS X post. id like to point out with Mac OS 8 that if your using mac99 it emulates a sawtooth and the sawtooth shipped with a special build of 8.6. while i do have an image of this build. when i try to boot it crashes QEMU (same crash that some versions of 9.0x have had happen)

Re: GSOC qemu Boot Mac OS >= 8.5 on PowerPC system

Was playing around a bit today and I rember reading there was some issues trying to get Mac OS 8 to even be seen as bootable by QEMU well today I found a 8.6 ISO for Sawtooths (sawteeth? LOL) witch is a rather late 8.6 Image and I decided to try it in QEMU (using the OpenBIOS image from the 10.3.9 i...
