Re: SheepShaver Installation and User Guides

Nope. Rebooted the iMac and now the SheepShaver alias icons in my Applications folder are gone again :( Basilisk II icons are still there though. Ugh.

That did the trick! Thanks :) I've got to pick up the pace on refreshing how Mac OS works after so many years under Winblows.

Re: SheepShaver Installation and User Guides

When you double click a sheepvm package, SheepShaver will start and it will use the prefs file in that particular sheepvm package and the files that prefs file points to. Makes sense, now that's clear. So only one .app needs to be on my Mac and it can be anywhere on the hard drive. Thanks for the c...

Re: SheepShaver Installation and User Guides

Where are you storing the SheepShaver app, and with what permissions? Whew, things got a little bit out of hand lately, but I'm back after a month of silence! Happy new year a little late! Normal/Vanilla permissions. The SheepShaver apps are in their respective packages, so for Mac OS 9.0.4 I've go...

Re: A "rootless" Basilisk II app for running old apps

So uh, is this like Basilisk II running a modified, Finder-less System 7 installer disk image with an arbitrary startup item in place of SimpleText? What exactly is this? I'm intrigued.

Re: SheepShaver Installation and User Guides

Well, I mean, it's not that hard to make .sheepvm and I don't really mind that way, BUT has anybody ever encountered this issue I've been facing for days with multiple .sheepvm : Every time I reboot my iMac M3 (macOS 14 Sonoma) it no longer understands what the .sheepvm "files" (packages, ...

Re: Programming my own Mac emulator

How's your dream project coming along to have a simple Mac-in-a-Browser? Me? Honestly, when Mihai released the first SheepShaver WASM build almost 2 years ago, I saw Mac OS 9 booting in a web page, I could not believe it! Then I tried on my iPad and my iPhone and I could even less believe it!! Now ...

Re: SheepShaver Installation and User Guides

uhm k, question: I've got an iMac M3 and I'm back in daily driving a Mac after a 19 years hiatus. Under Windows I had multiple instances (folders) of SheepShaver each running with a different ROM, different disks, etc... never had an issue with this. Now under macOS 14, I'm running the 2023-08-10 v2...

Re: Programming my own Mac emulator

This is absolutely incredible how far retro Mac emulation has gone over the last few years. Every year, it seems something I thought would never exist is being put together. Keep it up! It's like a dream come true that all those emulators now run in WASM in what anybody has got on their device: a we...

Re: Using QEMU to prepare hard drive for Lombard PB G3?

Allllllright, so after a quick vacation trip, I'm back at this task. It's been sitting on partitioning the 64GB disk image for more than 15 minutes using OSX 10.2 install CD... not sure why it's taking so long... https://i.ibb.co/Y2PBXnM/dasdassa.jpg Anyway, I just abruptly closed QEMU and launched ...

Re: Using QEMU to prepare hard drive for Lombard PB G3?

I wonder if i could do that under OSX 10.4.11 meaning I could first create a 64GB blank disk image outside of QEMU, boot QEMU to OSX 10.4.11 Tiger with all these 3 disk images attached and perform Disk Utility restore to partition like in the aforementioned SE solution: - Mac OS X 10.4.11 (boot, Dis...

Re: Using QEMU to prepare hard drive for Lombard PB G3?

I also just dragged all the folders from the Mac OS 9.2.2 install to the second partition, flashed it back to the IDE HDD and I now have a fully working dual partition, dual boot Mac OS 9.2.2 + OSX 10.2.8 environment in the internal PB G3 Lombard IDE HDD, all thanks to QEMU, otherwise I feel like it...

Re: Using QEMU to prepare hard drive for Lombard PB G3?

Against all odds, and before you replied, I had nothing to lose except waste 15 minutes and I went ahead and simply installed OSX 10.2 on an empty disk image using QEMU and then I flashed it back to the HDD and again, against all odds, the Lombard just booted into it and it works... In hindsight, th...

Re: Using QEMU to prepare hard drive for Lombard PB G3?

I think I should start over by taking the IDE HDD image and feeding it to QEMU, attaching Jaguar CD1 and installing on there. This way when the install is done, I can just flash the disk image back to the IDE HDD.

Thanks for replying.

Do you know if the QCOW or whatever format that QEMU is using as a disk image needs to be converted somehow before being dd'ed onto an actual IDE HDD?

Using QEMU to prepare hard drive for Lombard PB G3?

Hi, I'm wondering if it would be doable to use QEMU to prepare a 6GB disk image split in 2 partitions that will contain Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.2 for a PowerBook G3 Lombard? I could dd the disk image onto the real IDE HDD after Mac OS X is installed. You may be wondering why I'm not using the D...

Re: Qemu package and guide for Windows available

You probably meant that as of yesterday, Windows 8.1 has become unsupported. W7 has been unsupported for 3 full years now. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have 20 years old Mac OS goodness emulated on it anymore, especially if it's not even hooked up to the internet! There is no harm in keeping a...

Re: Qemu package and guide for Windows available

Oh. That's disappointing, especially given how 11% of the market still use W7, just 5% less than W11. Do you think there would be a way to compile it using what you used last year? Releases from a year ago work just fine under W7.

Under Windows 7 64-bit SP1, qemu-system-ppc-screamer.exe immediately crashes (0xc000007b / STATUS INVALID IMAGE FORMAT). https://i.ibb.co/QMYsWYc/fix-error-code-0xc00...

Re: How to add a second hard disk to Qemu?

This is fine for adding a CD-ROM, but how do you add a second hard drive (writable) ? EDIT: Brain faЯt sorry. It works *facepalm* I initially thought that it didn't work, because the 2nd hard drive did not mount on the desktop, but it just turned out that QEMU didn't like the disk image format, so h...

Re: Am I doomed to reinstall OSX 10.11? (rm -f FAIL)

Easiest Mac virus ever made. Send a ZIP file containing a NUL file. Shockingly easy to screw up somebody's Mac. In my case, I gave up and reinstalled El Capitan.
