Re: Help! Copying games from HFS volume to HFS volume on GNU/Linux

No, I don't know. It seems the manual doesn't mention copying whole folders.

You can run SheepShaver. It reads the floppy when it's added to the volumes list.
If you then also attach the qemu drive you can copy from the floppy to the qemu drive.

Re: Help! Copying games from HFS volume to HFS volume on GNU/Linux

Is that prince.dsk a cd image of the prince game? or a floppy image? Can you tell where you got it?

If it is a cd image, you might be able to mount it directly in Qemu.

Cat_7, you wrote: "I also do not know why you want everything on one single disk." That wasn't me ;-) No worries with the logins, i was just trying whether my installation reacted the same. It seems such a pain to configure the bbs without manual... FWIW: While running Hermes in Qemu I ha...

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

Just to let you know: my sheepshaver with hermes running has crashed a second time. I'm not sure why, perhaps due to the login/hacking attempts, but this does not seem like a stable installation...

I'll run it with qemu tomorrow to see whether that is more stable.

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

Mine crashed too, taking SheepShaver with it.
I believe there is no need to run hermes itself on another port, you already run on port 7777 for the outside world.

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

It is not SheepShaver that is forcing, it is Hermes that determines the port. If it has a config file, then perhaps you can set the port number on which it listens. If you can, you need to change the "23" part of the redir line.

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

Seems ok now, but I keep getting stuck in some conference... pressing w or c (as it says in the menu) will not get me anywhere. Perhaps that is configuration/rights issue, or a terminal issue... Yes you can redirect other ports. Whether it is wise? I see SheepShaver as a kind of honeypot for the mal...

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

I think the port forwarding in your router might still be off. I cannot connect. (or perhaps you run a firewall on sonoma that blocks the traffic?)

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

Hi, You can forget about tap networking. No need to mention it again. Please erase from memory ;-) Lets try once again: You forward port 7777 of your external ip by setting a port forwarding rule in the router to your host 192.168.x.x. To which port did you set it? Also 7777? (Can you share a screen...

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

Haha, "a little more" would suggest there already was some ;-) Took it off-line as it was only meant as a proof of concept and I have no idea at all how to admin such a board. But back to the point in question: getting the bbs online from sheepshaver with slirp networking and a redirection...

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

You are confused by the numbers, but redir tcp:23:10.0.2.15:23 does actually forward traffic from sheepshaver's 10.0.2.15 to your 192.168.x.x machine. Just try it: add the line, run Hermes and then run telnet on your host to localhost:23 or the 192.168.x.x.:23 ip address your host has. If that works...

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

I see only telnet (port 23) is needed to access the bbs. So for SheepShaver you add redir tcp:23:10.0.2.15:23 (you might have to run as root, and check that telnet access is not already active on your host) Next, make sure your router allows traffic on port 23 and forward it to your host ip adress. ...

Re: I'm Back .... After Nine Years .... and with Networking Problems!

Ha, indeed long time, no see. I believe the whole tap device business is no longer supported on recent macOS hosts, so that route should be closed. Recent macOS provides vmnet, which allows more or less the same as the old tap option. However, SheepShaver does not support vmnet connections (qemu run...

Re: Trouble with .toast

You can often just add the toast file as a cdrom to the qemu command line. (it might be you need to change the extension from toast to iso) Just try. The other way you suggest can also work. As you know, Basilisk/SheepShaver have the option to exchange files with the host through the My Computer opt...

Re: Windows: Upgrading BasiliskII.exe causes screen scaling change

Hi, manually edit your prefs file and change:

scale_nearest true
scale_integer true

to

scale_nearest false
scale_integer false

And you're back in business.

This is a known issue when emulating Mac OS 9.x with Qemu.
Just shut down and wait a few seconds, then close the window and start Qemu again.

Re: BasiliskII for Windows

Basilisk and SheepShaver change things in the rom to allow Mac OS to run.
Not all roms have the information that needs to be changed in the same place, so not all roms are fully patcheable and hence your outcomes may be unpredictable.

Best to stick with the roms advised in our guides.
