My page for Stuffit Expander describes a work around for this problem when using System 6.

Re: mpw for OS X !?!

Oh yes, and gryphel, have you looked at this project? It looks interesting. I've added mpw to my Mini vMac Alternatives page. Naturally, I personally prefer running MPW tools in MPW in Mini vMac, since I'm more familiar with MPW than the OS X command line. A main reason Mini vMac exists is so that ...

Re: Sticky system settings

I wonder why my MiniMac does not remember the system settings after a restart. Specifically, I'd like to turn down the system beep volume and it always comes back up full blast. The same goes for other settings, although they don't bother me so much. From the FAQ : "A real Macintosh has a smal...

Re: ImportFL problem

would it be possible to add auto-binhex into ImportFL so that people wouldn't have to worry about losing the resource fork? Or is this not done as the only platforms that would be able to handle this are Classic and OS X (and they handle it differently)? It is not possible to do this by just adding...

Re: ImportFL problem

Beats me how this works... I thought the MacPlus couldn't draw more pixels that it does in its box. A Macintosh Plus can't. For one thing, the size of the screen, and its position in memory is written into the ROM in several places. To get a larger screen size, Mini vMac emulates a hacked Macintosh...

Re: ImportFL problem

Above is MiniVMac but MiniVMacII can do pretty much everything MiniVMac can do and more. Some of oldest Macintosh software may run better on a Macintosh Plus, or better yet on the original Macintosh, than on a Macintosh II. Further, Mini vMac's emulation of a Macintosh II is incomplete and buggy. I...

Re: ImportFL problem

These options do not include the MacPlus, correct? At least I can't find one. Any variation without an "-m" option emulates the MacPlus, since that is the default. For example, number 2427, as pointed out by 24bit. You can also just request your own variation from the Variations Service ....

Re: ImportFL problem

I'm trying to import some files into my vMac using ImportFL. The procedure works as expected in that I get the prompt to open a file. However, the imported files are almost all 0K or rarely above that. Are you trying to import applications? (Or other file type that consists mainly of a resource for...

Re: Compile custom variations on Mini vMac

As mentioned by emendelson, the easiest way to get a custom variation is to ask me to compile it for you, using the custom variations page . But you are also welcome and encouraged to compile your own variations. I wondered why you are using Visual Basic when it is Visual C++ project. But looking at...

The easiest way to get Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 into a disk image is to download the zipped disk image from http://www.gryphel.com/c/sw/archive/stuffexp/index.html.

Re: Mini vMac 3.3.3, SDL under Linux?

So at this point, I'm wondering whether the SDL support works at all in Mini vMac. A copy of my reply on Mini vMac Mail : The SDL port is believed to be functional, but it is true I've only tried it on OS X recently. Bug reports are welcome. I'll try it on Linux when I find time. Re: Mini vMac under OS X - mount disk image from command lin

Can anyone make the OS X version of mini vMac mount a disk image from the command line? The mini vMac site says nothing about this ability under OS X; the site says it can be done under Linux and Windows, but does not describe it working under OS X. OS X applications do not usually take command lin...

Re: donating money towards development of sound in Mini vMac

The last I heard from Paul IIRC (a few months ago), regular life was getting a bit busy, so he was making Mini vMac a lower priority than is for-pay projects for a bit. However, I can't figure out where I heard that from now, so it's possible I'm thinking of someone else. He does read these forums ...

No, there is no easy way to determine the compile options used given a Mini vMac binary.

That could be a useful feature to add.

Re: Stuffit Expander problems

I installed StuffIt 4.01 on Mini vMac and it won't 'see' the .sit files on the same disk. One difficulty with Stuffit Expander in System 6 is getting it to operate on files which don't have the right Macintosh file type. But there is a trick to make it work. If you hold down the command key before ...

Re: Building Mini vMac on Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot 64bit

An issue I've found in Ubuntu 11.10 is that there is a conventional order for how libraries should be specified in the link command, which I didn't know since I hadn't come a across a linker that cared before. Libaries need to come after program object files. ( A reference ) This is fixed in the 3.3...

Re: Mini vMac Physical Hard Drive

Another possible approach is to make an image of the hard drive, use an emulator to install System 7.5.5 in the disk image, and then write the disk image back to the hard drive. I've just tried this approach with a floppy disk (in OS X 10.6.8) and it worked. The steps are: Run Disk Utility and selec...

I'm not sure what the status of sound in the Mac II emulation is. There hasn't been an update about that on the site in some time. Last time Paul wrote about it in the news section it wasn't really working. It may still be disabled. Yes, this hasn't changed. Sound doesn't yet work very well in the ...
