The issue is not the software, but the hardware. It may depend on the disk, but to my knowledge only with original Apple floppy drives a Mac diskette can be copied such that the resulting diskette is an exact copy that is indistinguishable from the original. I am not 100% certain though. Very few pe...

I still do not understand what you did. 1. -Double click the .dmg file in OSX (not in SheepShaver). It should open and you should see the contents. What image file is "the .dmg file"? Does it contain the software you want to install in SheepShaver? Classic software usually does not come on...

To create from a floppy disk a disk image that MacOS will see as the original floppy disk, you need a real Mac with floppy drive. For all other purposes there are several options. 1. Create 'Classic' image files from folders or volumes with MacOSX Disk Utility Install TinkerTool (free): http://www.b...

Re: I'm getting the same problem too...
Can you explain more clearly what you did? .dmg files are MacOSX specific files, cannot be used in MacOS and will indeed show a generic document icon.Paul wrote:but the .dmg shows up as a generic .img on the COI desktop.

You can create disk images from floppies on a original Mac with floppy drive, using applications like Disk Copy or ShrinkWrap. The image files can be transferred to the SheepShaver environment and mounted there, again with Disk Copy or ShrinkWrap, just like you would mount the image on a real Mac. T...

Re: Why is SheepShaver so poor?
- Different host system. I can try an iMac G4 with Tiger, MacBook Pro with Leopard, MacBook with Tiger, or iBook G3 with Panther. With "different host systems" I referred to Windows and Linux. Although BasiliskII emulates a 68k Mac and SheepShaver emulates a PPC Mac, the two emulators sha...

Re: Why is SheepShaver so poor?
Other people have played SimTower successfully. Why does it crash for me? Do you know people who have played SimTower successfully in SheepShaver? There may be essential differences between your setup and theirs. (Different host system, different ROM, different MacOS version, different SimTower ver...

You can set up printing to a PostScript network printer. Do not use the Chooser, but use 'Desktop Printer Utility' (not sure this is its name in English) that (in MacOS 9) will be somewhere in the 'Apple Extras' folder, probably in a folder 'Apple LaserWriter software'. LaserWriter 8 printer driver ...

The May 2006 snapshot by Gwenole Beauchesne does not have the high CPU usage. You can find it here: http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/en/projects/sheepshaver Note that this version has several bugs that are resolved in the latest builds. Notably the shared folder cannot be used for files that have Mac-...

Re: Official Bug reporting place.
Is there a place where can I submit a detailed bug report to so that it might get worked into the code base? I am not aware of a special place for bug reports. Since Gwenole Beauchesne has suspended further development of SheepShaver (and BasiliskII), a few members of this forum have made a couple ...

I do not think I ever tried running Java apps in SheepShaver. If I do the test you mention with iCab, SheepShaver crashes also. The example applets provided with MRJ also make SheepShaver crash. I doubt there is a solution. Possibly some hardware is needed that SheepShaver does not emulate. (MacOS 9...

When you set the window to a size a little smaller then your SS window I think the problem will be gone. And you can set the SheepShaver window in the preferences (or the GUI) to larger sizes than the sizes predefined in the menu. I have my SS window set at 1280x800. (After startup you may need to ...

So far we have not found a solution for this specific problem other than applying the latest Leopard Combo updater. That solves the problem for some, but not for all. We have no idea what the cause for the problem is. It is probably something in the system. It happens only in Leopard, usually on new...

I can try that, but this system came stock with 10.5.4. Then the 10.5.4 update can probably not be applied, better wait for the 10.5.5 update and use the 10.5.5 Combo-updater. And, refererring to the question by Cat_7, SheepShaver does not run if the setting for RAM Size is set to a value higher th...

The problem is reported by several people, always on Leopard. Search the forums to see the other reports. For some the problem was resolved by downloading and installing the latest system Combo-update over the existing system, 10.5.4 in your case. You can also wait for the 10.5.5 update that is expe...

I do not know MCL, but not all MacOS 8/9 compatible software will run in SheepShaver because it does not fully emulate a real hardware Mac. Especially a MMU (Memory Management Unit) is missing. That is why several games do not run in SheepShaver, why MacOS 9.1/9.2 cannot run in SheepShaver and why v...
