Re: SheepShaver for Windows

Confirmed it is working for me too - switching to windowed mode has the window show up in the middle of the screen with the menu bar available. Looks like we have best of both worlds now, thanks for the fix.

Re: SheepShaver for Windows

I also have the window stuck in the upper left corner of the screen when switching back to windowed mode during a session. However, I have no specific need to do so. Perhaps it is a niche requirement to want to both launch and run in full screen mode only. I personally do not find myself having to s...

Re: SheepShaver for Windows

Try the branch below. https://github.com/kanjitalk755/macemu/tree/test_fullscreen I just compiled that branch and it seems to work perfectly. I can launch directly into full screen mode with no delay and no graphical glitches. Is this a change that can be rolled into the master branch or does it re...

Re: SheepShaver for Windows

I tried compiling my own SheepShaver build, but so far that has not made a difference. I am not yet advanced enough with Windows to know how to compile with different SDL versions. Separate to my above comment, I am also having problems getting SheepShaver to launch immediately into fullscreen mode,...

Re: SheepShaver for Windows

This is just an observation, not a criticism. I have noticed, that compared to SheepShaver for MacOS, the Windows version displays quite a lot of graphical glitches when used in full screen mode. This includes slow downs and choppy graphics (particularly with anything using QuickTime), and large pat...

Mini vMac - corrupted 16 and 24 bit graphics

I am using Paul C. Pratt's Variations service to compile builds of Mini vMac, making use of this service while it lasts.. Anyway, I have found that when I compile Mac II systems with support for thousands, or millions of colors, the resulting executable displays graphical corruption when launched. I...

Re: Key re-mapping in SheepShaver for Windows

This keycodes file should do what you want (I hope): https://ronaldpr.home.xs4all.nl/keycodes/keycodes_ctrl-cmd-swap.zip In the prefs file needs to be: swap_opt_cmd false This works perfectly. It behaves exactly as predicted. Of course, if I ever go back to standard Windows 11 key mapping, I can sw...

I did not know much about keyboards, thanks for the information. In Australia we use what appears to be a standard North American key layout.

Re: Key re-mapping in SheepShaver for Windows

Yes, that is exactly right. So the result is that using "swap_opt_cmd false" results in me having to press Control-C to copy in SheepShaver, rather than using Command-C. The latter is what I want, so I need an override that will "swap" those keys again within SheepShaver, effecti...

Thank you. Yes, I think what you are describing is what I want. However, I am actually using an Apple extended wireless keyboard. I do not think I did a good job of clearly explaining my situation, so I will just re-cap: 1. I am using an iMac with an Apple extended wireless keyboard and Bootcamp wit...

Re: Key re-mapping in SheepShaver for Windows

What is really needed, is a feature like in Mini vMac, where you can swap the emulated Command and Control keys. As described in the Mini vMac documentation: This could be useful for people who are used to Windows, so that you can use Control-C to copy instead of Command-C (or actually Alt-C, as Alt...

Re: Key re-mapping in SheepShaver for Windows

Thanks, that was very helpful. I now end up having to press Control-W on the Mac keyboard, as I had swapped Control and Command (Windows) as mentioned above, to use Mac-style copy and paste in the Windows 11 environment. I am not sure if there is a way I can get SheepShaver to work with the Command-...

Key re-mapping in SheepShaver for Windows

I am running Windows 11 in Bootcamp. Since I am using Mac hardware, for ease-of-use, on my Mac keyboard I have reversed the mapping of my control (alt) and command (Windows) keys in Windows 11. That makes copy/paste much easier for me due to the muscle memory of doing it the Mac-way for so many year...

Re: Hexen II Mac OS 9.0.4

The version shown in the Basilisk II video is Hexen - Beyond Heretic, I've tried it on Mac OS 8.0 in SheepShaver and Basilisk II and it plays well. If you really want to play Hexen II, the Windows version plays fine on Windows XP in VirtualBox. Yes, I found that Hexen works in SheepShaver, as with ...

Re: Hexen II Mac OS 9.0.4

Hello anyone to help me ? While not wanting to encourage an off-topic discussion, I would like to suggest that you consider playing that game in one of its supported source ports, such as FTEQW or Hammer of Thyrion. I cannot see how you would achieve better results in SheepShaver or QEMU, which are...

Re: BIN/CUE support

Regarding CD-ROMs, many mixed-mode games are currently supported in BII and Sheepshaver. For instance, Warcraft II and Descent will work, but they have a separate speed issue that affects gameplay. Other ones I've tested like Prime Target and Derrat Sorcerum, as well as the Voyager enhanced CD-ROMs...

Re: BIN/CUE support

Thanks for testing it further. Yes, the audio quality difference can be quite marked when playing some of those mixed mode CD games. I think most games of the era churned out 8 bit sound, whereas hearing the crisp CD audio music playing in Alone in the Dark 2 and 3 is an experience I still remember ...

Re: Support for playing Redbook audio from BIN/CUE images

I am a bit confused by your first statement, because CD-quality audio (as encoded in the bin/cue image) appears to work fine. As mentioned, I can play the Redbook audio tracks from Alone in the Dark 2 directly within the AppleCD Audio Player in System 7.5.5. I acknowledge the title of the thread sho...

Thanks. I have built SheepShaver off the latest source on the kanjitalk755 repository. If I use Alone in the Dark 2 as an example: 1. The CD will mount properly. 2. The audio tracks can be played in the AppleCD Audio Player. 3. Installing the game and running it off the hard disk will result in an e...

BIN/CUE support

I see there was a recent commit on the macemu GitHub repository to “fix” bin cue support for SheepShaver. https://github.com/kanjitalk755/macemu/commit/03ed87c96634eef6e3bf64c230790fed2bad0234 I anticipate that this will only fix the issue of not being able to mount and read this type of image? I ha...

Is it possible to use the hardware cursor option in the Windows version of SheepShaver? There is an option in Windows to make the cursor black, so it might not be as jarring as it sounds.

That makes sense, thanks. Good to know the Mac version is already taking full advantage of what the GPU can do to assist with overall performance.

Re: So, what 3D games are compatible with the new hardware acceleration feature?

As far as I am aware, this is Windows-only. On OSX/macOS, BasiliskII and SheepShaver use OpenGL or Metal depending on the hosts hardware. Note that this feature is about rendering used by the emulator on the host. It does not do anything for software running inside the emulator. It does not change ...
