Re: How To : Emulate NeXTStep in Previous or Other Emulator
I gave up, as I could not manage to exchange files with my host. The way to exchange files with the host with NextStep or OpenStep running in VMware is to use an FTP program on the host to connect with the VMware guest. Set the network adapter of the VMware guest to be shared with the host system. ...

Re: Disable improper shutdown notice in System 7
If you force quit an emulator that is running System 7 and then restart the emulator, a modal dialog will pop up at startup that complains that the computer was shutdown improperly. Is there a way to disable this dialog permanently? If there's some kind of "dirty" marker file that is bein...

Re: PearPC in OS X via WineSkin
As for the alt-key remapping, it turns out Doh123 already thought about that; I think I found the bit for that in his latest version of Wineskin. Could you explain what this means? What is "the bit for that"? By "his latest version of Wineskin" I think you mean this: http://wine...

I haven't tried PearPC yet at all; am hoping that adespoton can provide further tips for his Wine-based solution (I'm not clear on whether you need to start with a Windows install first, for example). Will then see what else might be needed for the guide.

Re: PearPC for Windows Setup Guide (with the new 0.5.0 relea
PearPC.net seems to have disappeared. There's a link to it in the setup guide - for how to set up networking. Is it possible to get that information directly into the setup guide? Thanks! Now that I've got this thread started, here's the bits I've been having issues with: 1) Alt is mapped to the left command key. I posted a basic technique for fixing mistaken Alt-key remapping in Wine here: http://portingteam.com/topic/9966-xmodmap-question-how-to-make-cmd-key-act-like-win-key-not-a...

Re: Option on Mac?
So is this a known issue with option+click? Should I stop worrying about it? I remember that I vaguely noticed that I couldn't option-click before, but I mistakenly thought it had something to do with 7.5.5, not Basilisk II. I don't know if it's a known problem. I can't see anything obvious in the ...

Re: Option on Mac?
Apologies: my fault. I misunderstood what you were saying. Yes, in my build, as in all recent builds, it seems you cannot use Option-Click on the title bar of the background application to bring it to the front and hide the current foreground application. And you cannot use Option-drag to make a cop...

Re: Option on Mac?
The option key certainly works in my build - I just tested it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/271144/BasiliskII-EM.zip If it doesn't work in that build, then maybe something is wrong with the system that you're running inside Basilisk? (FYI: In my build, you use Ctrl-Opt-F5 to capture/release t...

Re: An interesting SheepShaver configuration
You only need a somename.sheepvm package that contains: SheepShaver.app, rom file, keycodes file, disk image with installed OS, and prefs file. Once configured, it will run without further configuration on any Mac with a OSX that the included SheepShaver can run on. Put it on a USB stick and you ca...

Re: An interesting SheepShaver configuration
Edit: Nasty thing when you run the full "Hypercard.app" is that it overwrites your existing ~/.sheepshaver_prefs file. Completely unnecessary, because the virtual machine uses the included "prefs" file and not the ~/.sheepshaver_prefs file. Maybe the creator made a SheepShaver v...

Re: Send files from OS X 10.7+ to miniVMac?
Well, it's slow and clumsy, but it works: As 24bit suggested, ImportFl and ExportFl are the most reliable ways to get files into and out of mini vMac, but if you want to move binary files, you need to encode them and decode them in both directions. Simple suggestions below: You'll need DropStuff and...

That is essentially the same as what I did with AppleScript (following Ronald's suggestion) in this thread:

Your bash script version probably starts a few milliseconds faster, though!

Self-contained mini vMac & disk image for OS X
Following a suggestion by Ronald, here is a method for creating a self-contained AppleScript application that runs mini vMac and a disk image that works with it. You must already have a copy of mini vMac, a suitable ROM, and a disk image that you know works. Here is the method. In the AppleScript Ed...

Could I make this a more general question to the forum: Can anyone make the OS X version of mini vMac mount a disk image from the command line? Re: Mini vMac under OS X - mount disk image from command lin
Thanks for this, but the current custom builds don't seem to accept filenames as command-line parameters. I'm certain that I'm using the syntax correctly, because I'm able to launch the unix executable from the terminal, and I let the terminal fill in the name of the disk image. The emulator launche...

Mini vMac under OS X - mount disk image from command line?
Under OS X, is it possible to use a terminal command (or an AppleScript) that automatically launches a disk image when starting Mini vMac? I'd like to create a self-contained AppleScript bundle that contains a copy of Mini vMac, a ROM file, and a disk image, and start it all at once if possible. May...
