Re: SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update
Same thing is happening with completely fresh installs, on System 7 and 9 and whether it is on DSK or DMG images. I also tested on restored back ups of my VMs, which were confirmed to be working on a different Mac. So no corruption or other issues here. When I wait a while between launches of SheepS...

Re: SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update
I tried the MacOS 9 app and it was affected in the same way as the SheepShaver app, as described above. To rule out any peculiarities with my system, I installed a fresh copy of Mojave on an external drive and upgraded it to 10.14.4 with a combo updater I had backed up. I performed all the same test...

Re: SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update
When I get the black screen the mouse cursor immediately becomes that spinning pinwheel, so the app then freezes up and does not respond to any key strokes, including control-return. However, I can still use the F3 key to get into mission control and from there back to the desktop. At that point, I ...

Re: SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update
Just a few thoughts. Most users will not be in the habit of quitting and again launching SheepShaver within seconds repeatedly. Thanks for those insights. Although I did not experience this issue in earlier versions of Mojave, perhaps the 10.14.5 update has slowed something down more than usual, so...

Re: SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update
So I booted into High Sierra and tested all my VMs and configurations. All worked fine. No issues at all.
The next thing I will try is a 10.14.5 'combo' update. For good measure, I will also install Mojave fresh on another external drive and test on that as well.
I will report back on the results.

Re: SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update
I am using a 1440p non-retina screen. The build is the latest one from 4 May 2019. However the problem also occurs with the 1 April 2019 build. I have tested with and without hard cursor enabled, with the same results. I also tried swapping in backups of my DMG files, to rule out corruption. This is...

SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update
I am experiencing a strange problem with SheepShaver 2.5 following an update to macOS 10.14.5. Everything was working fine under 10.14.4, but following the update SheepShaver will go to a black screen with the spinning pinwheel icon every 3 or 4 launches. What makes it strange is that the problem is...

After some more testing, the problem is now manifesting itself with the SheepShaver 2.5 application. I will raise the issue in the main forum.

Re: Standalone SheepShaver for OS X (add ROM and OS 8.5-9.0.
No problem here under Mojave 10.14.5. Possibly something's wrong with the disk image on which you installed the classic OS? That's just a guess. Thanks. I will do some more testing with fresh disk images. The two things that confuse me are that the existing wrappers worked normally before the updat...

Re: Standalone SheepShaver for OS X (add ROM and OS 8.5-9.0.
Is anyone experiencing problems with the wrapper in the latest version of Mojave (10.14.5)? It was working perfectly for me up to 10.14.4, but following the update, I am getting a black screen and beach ball when I run it. I have to force quit because it does not respond at all. I also tried droppin...

Re: Quest for Glory V - cursor problem
Yes, 64-bit Wineskin does not avoid the problem of having to run all the underlying 32 bit processes. Those will just not run in 10.15 unless they are translated live or run in a virtualized environment. At least wIth the imminent deadline, the development of a work-around seem to be gaining tractio...

Re: Quest for Glory V - cursor problem
It was released as a dual PC/Mac game in 1998. The minimum requirement is Windows 95/System 7.5. I know it is technically possible to get Windows 95 running under DOSBox but there are all sorts of problems with it. Now that the hard cursor issue is fixed for full screen, it works very well in SheepS...

Re: Quest for Glory V - cursor problem
That makes sense. It is just interesting that some games behave in the opposite manner, Quest for Glory V being a case in point. It uses custom cursors, but these only work in hardware mode within SheepShaver. I suppose it comes down to the specifics of how the individual games were coded.

Re: Quest for Glory V - cursor problem
I have tested the fullscreen hardware cursor on 30+ games and it works 99% of the time. So far, I have identified a couple of games where it does not work: 1. All the Lemmings games - when forcing the hardware cursor, the custom in-game cross-hair cursor shows up as black instead of green, including...

Re: Quest for Glory V - cursor problem
I found that if the integer scaling is used, the hard cursor can be used in full screen mode. I have implemented that. https://github.com/kanjitalk755/macemu You have to set the preference file as follows. hardcursor true scale_integer true scale_nearest true That is excellent! Works perfectly, and...

Re: Quest for Glory V - cursor problem
Yes, I could switch to non-native resolutions but at the cost of the image being blurry. Perhaps in the future a screen magnification setting could be implemented, similar to the one in Mini vMac.

Quest for Glory V - cursor problem
In Quest for Glory V the soft cursor does not work correctly in full screen mode. It completely disappears unless the cursor is moved back and forth rapidly across the screen, which basically makes the game unplayable. When I switch to window mode and set the hard cursor to true, everything works no...

That sounds like exactly what I’ve been looking for. If you can share a sample framework and the link to where this is discussed on Paul’s website that would be brilliant. Thanks!adespoton wrote: If you need help, or need my framework as an example, let me know.

macOS app wrappers for Mini vMac - help requested
I worked out a way to make some self-contained macOS app "wrappers" for custom builds of Mini vMac. This allows me to adjust each build for a specific game or application and then conveniently run them as individual apps on my iMac, with custom icons and all that. I use the Platypus app to...

Thanks, I have been keeping an eye on Qemu and it looks promising - just a bit of a learning curve compared to SheepShaver.Cat_7 wrote:The Qemu screamer build with Mac OS 9.2 runs it. Use the recent VGA driver that supports 256 colours.
Don't know whether the mouse is OK, though.

Re: Lemmings "error type -39"
Are the apps installed on the boot image? Yes, they are in their respective folders, on the main hard drive image containing the System folder, which is a standard DMG image. They work in Mini vMac under System 7.1, but not in SheepShaver under any System. I ran theses games on my classic Macs up t...

Re: LucasArts
Yes, that for the most part seems a better solution. The only exception is Dark Forces, which was far superior on the Mac compared to the DOS equivalent and which did not use the Scumm engine.

LucasArts

This issue has been with SheepShaver for years now, but perhaps someone might have ideas as to the underlying cause? It affects everything from the early ad...
