Isn't the solution already implemented? VirtFS works great for me with OS 9 now, and no longer even requires the VirtFS system extension be installed.

Cat_7, you wrote: "I also do not know why you want everything on one single disk." That wasn't me ;-) No worries with the logins, i was just trying whether my installation reacted the same. It seems such a pain to configure the bbs without manual... FWIW: While running Hermes in Qemu I ha...

Re: A/UX AppleTalk information
Does anybody have a ready-to-go A/UX 1.1 image or .dsk for Shoebill? There's no dsk, just the iso. You can boot the iso directly, but beware, as shoebill will mount it read/write. There are instructions on https://aux-penelope.com/aux_1.0.htm for using A/UX 3.0 to take the 1.1.1 image and restore i...

Re: Help! Copying games from HFS volume to HFS volume on GNU/Linux
Personally I've switched to always assuming data fork only from the host system -- so for HFS-only img files, I'll just copy it into the guest image, then use ShrinkWrap, Disk Copy or Toast to mount the image internally. Disk Copy Image files, Stuffit files, Binhex files and MacBinary files may lose...

Re: SheepShaver for Windows
Interesting that the issue is consistently moving from 512 to 1024MB VRAM in the BIOS. We understand the reason (the static mapping of components of SheepShaver in memory overruns the memory block allocated), but maybe this points to a potential solution for someone hacking the SheepShaver code? Mov...

Re: Create Emulation fro complete disk image
There's not really any reason to do that; you can just turn on CD sharing for the Mini and have the drive show up on a different Mac via the network. However, what you really want to do is create an image of the CD (tool to use as linked in other thread: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/dumptoiso-a-...

Re: making an iso from genuine install media
You want this: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/dumptoiso-a-script-os-x-dump-cds-and-dvds-iso-files The issue isn't that there's copy protection on the CDs, it's that Apple has over time hobbled both media access from the OS AND removed features from Disk Utility, while also getting creative about w...

Re: Tiger for Intel on VMs
What does the " just virtualize x86-based computers" bit mean? It does NOT work under QEMU TCG, which means it won't emulate correctly on Apple Silicon, just virtualize x86-based computers. When you run QEMU, you have the option to use the TCG emulator, or use the host CPU, GPU and memory...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X
Do you still have a copy of your Shoebill work up somewhere? Possibly on an old machine or a backup. I'm traveling until Sunday night and the laptop I have here doesn't have it. Let me know next week if you still want it. Will do; turns out that the error is 0.7-specific -- I've got 1.1.1 and up wo...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X
Do you still have a copy of your Shoebill work up somewhere? I'm trying to get a self-contained A/UX 0.7 off the ground, and as you can guess, I'm running into all sorts of headaches with the macOS version of Shoebill. Command line arguments still don't work, and I can't seem to even add paths that ...

There is no other way to search? Sherlock works by running a background process that indexes the drive's contents. Then when you ...

Every so often I get the message "updating index of "Mac 9.2.1"." Why does this happen, does it need to happen, and can I stop it from happening? Do you mean inside the OS you're getting the notification that the Sherlock search index is being updated in the background? You can ...

Re: A/UX AppleTalk information
I'm soon planning to create some CHDs for MAME that boot A/UX 1.x and 2.x -- I found a useful little checklist on a Tech Info CD from 1992 that should help.
Don't forget about A/UX 2.0.1 for a fully patched 2.x, and A/UX 3.1 + Tune-Up 2.0 for the 3.x series!

Re: Remount disk images on restart
Would it be possible to have the host mount/unmount/remount disks and have the content available on Mini vMac to share over AppleTalk? Possible, yes -- but someone's going to have to code that up, and Paul's been taking a break from Mini vMac for a few years. I presume what you're asking for is a f...

Re: Problems with Rhapsody DR2
There are some issues with the Intel TCG machine defaults under QEMU; I still haven't got around to getting a functional Rhapsody, Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard running. Once I do, I'll put up my UTM configs for those. However, I also haven't got Rhapsody working under UTM; it assumes some things t...

Re: QEMU command in Win v.s. macOS host
Have you tried building a new guest image from scratch? I seem to recall some architectural changes somewhere along the way that required I set up a new image from scratch. This means your QEMU 8.0 image may not be compatible with QEMU 5.2 due to architectural and EFI changes in the intervening years.

What kind of Mac mini do you have specifically? It's a Mac mini G4/1.25. Does that mean you've got memory regions working now? I can't imagine running OS X with 8MB RAM.... The pm6100 emulation can have up to 264 MB with a couple minor changes to the emulation code. pm6100 and anything with a PowerPC 601 can't boot OS X. OS X won't work on a NuBus Mac even if it has a G...

Re: A/UX AppleTalk information
I'm looking for some information about A/UX and AppleTalk. Version 1.1 I don't know if it even has a Chooser. All the screenshots I've seen don't have any of that shown. Version 2.0 runs with System 6, so I'm assuming it comes with AppleShare 2.0. EtherTalk? Maybe? Version 3.0 comes with System 7, ...
