Interesting... how did you get 10.4 working? What's your host system hardware? For me when I had a Core 2 Duo system, 10.4 worked, with sound. Now I'm on a Haswell-based system and 10.4 KPs on boot.

Which version of VirtualBox are you using?

Not sure whether this helps, but I found that Tigers and Leopards sound is not working for me by default either in VMWare Fusion in OSX / macOS.
The only instance with sound working for me is a Leopard Server instance found on the net some years ago.
My guess is that someone patched the AC97 kext in 2009 to get sound working.

Maybe VMWare Player for Windows will work for you, it is free to download.
I had little luck with VMWare on Windows, things are working though on macOS with equal hardware. (i5-2520m)
It should be possible to patch the AC97 kext for Tiger too, the Hackintosh sites may have a how to still.

The Leopard Server instance with sound working is uploaded to Mega, but I did not try the DL lately.
See here #10 please: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-x-server-105
There may have been other patches done for the Leo Server instance to let it run with newer hardware.

As an alternative, this worked for me: https://github.com/ranma42/TigerOnVBox

That method should work for Windows 7 VirtualBox as well, except that you'll also need to inject the Apple copyright key into EFI as well. But it only works for Tiger Server, not the standard client version. I haven't been able to boot Tiger Standard x86 (or Leopard Standard x86) in anything since I moved to an I7.

Thanks for the pointer, adespoton!
Do you recall that sound was working oob that way?

Here is the missing puzzle piece for Leopard Server in VMWare to enable sound:
https://www.magentacloud.de/lnk/VLYMJNex
Unzip and install the kext with KextUtility.

Too bad this won´t work for Tiger on my side.
I did install the kext all right, but OSX 10.4 complains about it as not installed properly.
Could be there was an older AC97 package or there are only some wrong dependencies.

That kext is built against 10.5 and uses calls that aren't available yet in 10.4. I'll check out my image soon (hopefully this week as time permits) and see if I get sound under VBox, Parallels or VMWare. I seem to recall in the past not getting VMWare sound, but getting VBox sound (and I've never got it booting in Parallels Desktop).

[edit] Just checked; OS X 10.4.11 Server in VirtualBox 6.0.2 in OS X 10.14.2 works perfectly for me with sound. So any audio issues would be with Windows audio incompatibility or with the install config.

[edit2] feel free to add to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... a2nWC9_t2w as you discover things that do and don't work :)

Found an old Azalia sound pakage for Tiger via an old link over at Insanely.
That way, sound is working with Tiger on my Lenovo T60.
Sound is not working for me in Tiger/VMWare though. :(
Feel free to try the package:

Hi, can you send me the link to download the 10.4, I would like to test it on VMWare.
Thanks!

Are you looking for Tiger 10.4.7 Server Universal, simplemac?
If so, please look here at #6: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-server-104

Thanks, but I’m looking for a x86 version of Tiger for my IBM T43 as Davek2018 did.
