Sheepshaver not opening on macOS 11.6?

Post by JasonBreen »

I just downloaded the latest build for silicon Macs, and it opens and then immediately closes after. How to fix this?

Did you replace a previous SheepShaver build in an existing SheepShaver setup?
Or are you starting a new SheepShaver setup?

To make SheepShaver run, it needs to be in the SheepShaver folder with at least a compatible rom file that is renamed "Mac OS ROM".

Follow the setup guide, it describes all steps in detail: https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sh ... os_x_setup

Hi

I have the same issue with arm64 native, with rosetta checked everything works fine !

Existing setup with FrameMaker and 2gb disk.

The logfile reason is "com.apple.xpc.launch : Coalition cache hit:app< application.com.emaculation.sheepshaver sheepshaver>

No crashfile

No worries because I'm using my intel mac ... was just testing:)

Thanks, Alexis

Strange. My latest 'universal' build works fine here natively on a M1 iMac.

Edit: Running macOS 11.6.

Hello! Thank you for all your help!

Same issue here with version 2.5 on M1 12.0.1 Monterrey. Moved over my exact SheepShaver folder from my working Intel 12.0.1 Monterrey Mac, and the app just closes on the M1 MacBook Air Monterrey Mac. Same folder runs just fine on Intel Monterrey 12.0.1 Mac (Hackintosh actually).

Tried moving the ROM file over via .ZIP file and AirDrop, thinking maybe the ROM was corrupted. Tried renaming ROM as "Mac OS ROM" But no go. Thinking it could be APFS read issues, I tried copying the SheepShaver folder to a HFS+ formatted USB, and running it from there - no luck. Looking in Console for errors with SheepShaver during launch I seem to find:

error 17:53:51.635663-0500 SheepShaver AddInstanceForFactory: No factory registered for id <CFUUID 0x6000028796c0> F8BB1C28-BAE8-11D6-9C31-00039315CD46

Other non- SheepShaver errors that have consistently shown when attempting Launch of SheepShaver:

I do not know what could be the issue.

The latest universal build runs fine here on my M1 iMac with Big Sur (I never upgrade to early versions of a new macOS). The existing SheepShaver folder and settings on my previous Intel iMac with Catalina (also APFS) were moved with the usual migration of the user to my new machine.

Does your ~/.sheepshaver_prefs file contain the correct paths?

Did you make sure the zip archive was expanded outside the SheepShaver folder and the resulting SheepShaver app then moved or copied to the SheepShaver folder?

When you renamed the rom file to "Mac OS ROM", did you check in Finder Info for the file that the file does not have a hidden extension?

Which SheepShaver build do you use? The SheepShaver version number does not identify the actual version. Only the build date does.

Thank you so much Ronald.

Looks like I just had to download a new SheepShaver folder from the 2.5 download page. Opening and running great now.

Sorry to take your time and thank you for all your wonderful efforts!

I'm having the exact same problem with SheepShaver. Everytime I click on the icon, it closes immediately. What could I do in order for it to work?

1. Follow our setup guide: https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sh ... os_x_setup

2. As indicated in the setup guide, some of the needed downloads are from this forum post (also read what is written there!): viewtopic.php?t=7360
