Post subject:  SheepShaver & High Sierra : Not OK !!

Hello,

Please excuse the quality of my English, but it is not my mother tongue.
Or the one I use most easily (I'm French!).

I followed your instructions, Ronald, to install SheepShaver on my iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) with Mac OS X 10.13.6 (17G8030), but it doesn't work!

In my desktop, I have two files:
• one named "Shared", who is empty
• one named "SheepShaver", which contains
--> a disk image of OS 9: "Mac_OS_9.0.4.toast"
--> your different files (Build history / keycodes / Mac OS ROM / Setup Manual / SheepShaver / SheepShaver scripts)
--> SheepShaver is from the zip archive "SheepShaver_2.5_20190504.zip".

When I first open the SheepShaver software with a right-click, I confirm my request and OS X asks me to enter the Administrator IDs.
SheepShaver leaves and nothing happens. :!:
If I open SheepShaver again, nothing happens. :!:

With the Terminal, I can delete the invisible files ".sheepshaver_prefs" and ".sheepshaver_nvram" (obtained with the unix command "ls -altr" in my Home folder).
But that doesn't change my problem.

What should I do :?:
Thank you in advance.

The only thing I can imagine at this point is that something is wrong with the ROM file.

1. Either the file is not a compatible ROM file. Which file did you download? Did you decompress the zip file?

2. Or the name is not exactly "Mac OS ROM" without extension. You can check and remove a hidden extension in Finder Info for the file.

My ROM file is from an image disk "Mac_OS_9.0.4.toast" that I have in my archive.
Otherwise, I also found another image disk "MacOS 9.0.4.iso" on the website "https://winworldpc.com/product/mac-os-9/90". But I don't know if he's okay.

As for the ROM file, my iMac considers it a "Mac OS 9.0" file and displays an "exec" icon.

So, at this point, I don't know.

A .toast file is not a ROM file. An .iso file is not a ROM file. Anything with a name like 9.0 will NOT be a ROM file but a disk image.

You need to use a ROM file instead. The ROM will be less than 2 MB in size.

That file will not work with SheepShaver.
Search the web for 'Redundant Robot" and download the old world rom file you will find there. Decompress the zip file and rename the resulting file to "Mac OS ROM", without name extension.

Is the "Mac_OS_9.0.4.toast" image file created from a general retail installation CD-ROM? If it is created from a mac-model specific CD-ROM, the installer on it may not work with SheepShaver.
