Configure Mac OS 9.1 disk image, write to real HDD?

Hi,
I need to boot an iMac G3 DV. The USB boot methods don’t work for me.
Can I prepare a disk image in Sheepshaver with a booting Mac OS 9.1 (did so already) and 'dd' this to a connected IDE hard disk, then transplant this into the iMac?
I tried that but the Sheepshave image format doesn’t seem to be a 1:1 of a real hard disk’s content?
