About SheepShaver, a PPC Mac emulator for Windows, MacOSX, and Linux that can run System 7.5.3 through MacOS 9.0.4.

I do some of my work in OS 9.2 under SheepShaver. When I restart SheepShaver (and thus reboot OS 9), after a quit or a computer restart, I have to re-do any pop-up windows from the "Unix" side that I want in OS 9 (the tabs along the bottom of the screen that keep specific windows accessible to the Finder all the time.
Pop-up windows from the SheepShaver side are maintained on a restart.
Is there any way to have the Unix-side pop-up windows preserved when SheepShaver is shut down?

Open windows of folders inside Unix, tabbed or not, do indeed not survive shutdown.
For often used folders you could use aliases of those folders on the desktop instead. The connection between the alias and the original folder does survive shutdown and restart.
(Create the alias by dragging and dropping the folder icon while holding command-option keys.)

Thanks! I will try that.

Since you're wanting things to survive restart, I can also recommend the System Extension Yo-yo, which re-launches all applications that were open when you restarted. Not as good as macOS app restore, but it at least gets the applications back to their previous state.

Thanks. It's my desktop layout and easy access to a lot of different folders that I want to survive restart, not specific applications. (And i would love it if Power On Software's Action Utilities (Action Files, last updated 1998) kept its memory of recent folders on the Unix side, but I'm pretty sure there's no way for that to happen.)

You can always store an HFS+ disk image on the Unix side and auto-mount it when you boot SS -- then the metadata state should be remembered on the disk image's desktop, and you can also mount the disk image on the host.

Thanks, but I'm trying to access my complete working file system from my writing and professional career -- 60,000 Word 4, HyperCard and Clarisworks files written over 30+ years -- so it's those windows I want accessible. So I'm not sure how this idea would help. The suggestion of aliases has helped. Mostly I just keep SheepShaver running from one day to the next to avoid the problem.

Now that I've gone through more than a couple of restarts of SheepShaver, the aliases set up to link over to the Unix side no longer work as intended. They link to different folders than they originally did. What they link to seems to be more or less random.
The OS X side is 10.13.6 on an iMac. (Perhaps it will work differently under Catalina, but I'm going to avoid upgrading this iMac until I have to, as I don't like some of the things Catalina has done in other ways. I have Catalina on a brand new MacBook Pro but am not actively using that until I'm travelling.)
