Menu bar invisible in sheepshaver on Ubuntu 18.04
I've just installed sheepshaver and gotten it to start (which I'm slightly proud of because I'm very bad at these sorts of things) on my ubuntu system. Now, every tutorial I've seen says to go to settings, which I assume can be found somewhere in a menu bar. The only issue is that no such menu bar exists, and the flashing floppy screen fills the entire window. What am I doing wrong?

Likely you've started up in full screen mode? Does control-enter bring you back to windowed mode?

Hi,
The tutorials you found are referring to the MacOS builds of SheepShaver. In Linux no such menus are available.
If your SheepShaver has been compiled to show the GUI, that GUI would appear before SheepShaver starts Mac OS.
If not, you should edit the configuration file manually. Executing nano .sheepshaver_prefs in your home folder should do the trick.
Best,
