Which versions of PearPC and OpenVPN are you using? You should use the latest of both.

I'm using the newest version of OpenVPN and I use both PearPC 0.4 and 0.2.

PearPC 0.4 finds the TAP-WIN32 device but Mac OS 10.2 doesn't.
PearPC 0.2 doesn't start sayting "Could not find and installed TAP-WIN32 devices".

It's not Mac OS 10.2 that should find the tap device, it should use a network card driver to connect through the tap device.

If the tap device has been by found by pearpc 0.4, you should install the 3com or realtek driver in mac os 10.2 and see if a network card is detected in the network preferences. You also have to enable the 3com or realtek card in the preferences file.

Please post you config file and be a bit more specific as to which versions you are using in your experiments and how far exactly you got.

As I said earlier, below is one way of networking 10.2, using pearpc 0.2:

Below is a copy of my post from here: http://www.emaculation.com/phpBB/viewto ... ht=tap0801

Hello,

I am writing to you from Mac OS X 10.2 on pearpc on windows XP SP2 through the 3com driver.

So it seems it IS possible to network 10.2 on XP. The only caveat is that I am using pearpc 0.2.0 So it's rather slow.

Configuration:
host network adapter
10.10.10.11, default gw 10.10.10.10, with ISP dns'
tap device: 10.10.10.12. gateway 10.10.10.10
These two are bridged so I have a bridge like this:
10.10.10.10, default gateway 10.10.10.1 (my windows 2003 server) with ISP dns'

Mac OS X:
10.10.10.12 default gw 10.10.10.10, with ISP dns'

I had to change the name of the tap device in the registry, because pearpc 0.2.0 still searches for "tapxxxx", and "tapxxxx" has to be an exact predefined value. Thats why for a long time pearpc only worked with only one version of the tap device. You can look the old development list messages up about this.
The newer versions of pearpc simply search for "tap". So I changed tap0801 to tap (after configuring the network)

So the problem is in Pear. The same goes for the linux version.
Packets are recognized and sent, but not received in Pear.

I'll see if this also works with higher version of Pear,

EDIT: no it doesn't: mac osx gives me a kernel panic when using pearpc 0.4 pre
When using Pearpc 0.3 Mac OSX doesn't crash, but also doesn't connect

Best wishes

How exactly do you install the 3com driver?
I got it in PearPC but it wont let me copy it to the Extentions folder in the system.

Type the following on the terminal program:

Code: Select all

cd [the extension's directory]
sudo cp -R [the extension] /System/Library/Extensions
[your password]
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/[the extension]
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/[the extension]
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/[the extension]
The first command moves to the extension's directory, the second copies the extension to the right directory, the third and fourth set the right permissions, and the fifth loads the extension (so you don't have to reboot in order to run it for the first time).
