Mac OS X Server 1.0 on iMac G4

Post by Jose64141 »

I bought an iMac G4 (800MHz 15-inch model), and I want to install Mac OS X Server 1.0 on it.
I downloaded an image of version 1.2 and burnt it on a CD.
I've tried to make it boot, but it shows the missing folder icon.
Mac OS X Server 1.0 is available for the eMac, and some people installed it on an iMac G3.
Please, give me some help D:

Have you tried installing OS 9 first, and then running the installer from there?

I've tried to do that, but when the Installer restart the computer to boot from the CD, the missing folder icon appears again.

I compared the specs of the first eMac and the iMac I have, and they are basically the same :(
I think the problem is the burned CD, but I dont'n know

How did you do that? If the image is created from a bootable installation CD, you should not burn the image file onto the CD, but recreate the original CD by making again a CD from the image.

With Burn, in the sane iMac, and with ImgBurn on a Windows PC (I’ve tried with a lot of CDs)
The image is (if I remember well) from The Macintosh Garden

As I see, the install disc of version 1.2v3 uses Mac OS 9.0.4 to boot, which is unsupported by the iMac G4 and the eMac
So, how did the OS get installed back in the day in the eMac?

Should I burn the disc in DAO or TAO?

DAO; TAO would close the track but leave the disc open.

I tried to run BootX directly from OF, and it said:

Code: Select all

parsing <CHRP-BOOT>
DEFAULY CATCH!, code=70 at %SRR0: ff8494a0 %SRR1: 0000b030
What does it mean?

P.S: The PRAM battery is dead, the computer doesn't save the date :P

You wrote that you used Burn on the Mac. In Burn you choose "Copy".

I think that the problem is BootX rather than the CD

Yep
I've done some research, and the iMac G4 has a different architecture that the eMac and any compatible MOSX Mac

So now, for me, it's very unlikely that the system will boot :(
