Hi
I discovered Mini vMac a few days ago, hoping to relive the dawn of my gaming career.
I first starting playing games in early 1990 on my dads mac. I have installed vMac and Stuffit, but I can not get any of the games running. The games are in .bin format. How can I make these into a working format? I get my games from macintoshgardern.org. Can you help me.
Thanks

Hi,
Stuffit5 will usually decompress the hqx things, unless they were made with Stuffit7.
Some people tend to compress files for MiniVMac with that one.
In that case you might even need SheepShaver running MacOS9 to decompress the files.
Many of your games will work with BasiliskII, but its difficult to tell in advance.
BasiliskII does emulate a MacII with System7, but some early games fail to play sound.
Others will simply run too fast, to be playable with modern host systems
What host system are you on?
And what was your dad's Mac?
A MacII I suppose.
MiniVmac is not emulating a MacII right now, but that seems to be under construction.
I found that FusionPC, running in DOSBox on my Athlon 5000 WinXP system, is working very nice too.
MacII emulation with colour graphics, sound and you can have real HD floppies as well, in case you still own a disk drive.
If you stay monochrome, MiniVMac will suit you best. MiniVMac plays sound alright with WindowsXP for me.
Don't miss ClockWise's nice collection of games at Emaculation.
Best wishes!

I've been using Mini vMac IIx since the end of 2009 (however the author isn't very interested in completing Mac II emulation). Mini vMac II with 8MB RAM could run Stuffit Expander 5.5 and expand Sit5 .sit files, albeit slowly24bit wrote: MiniVmac is not emulating a MacII right now, but that seems to be under construction.
