trouble extracting a .sit file with stuffit 4.0.1 in vmac

Post by trope »

hi! i've been using lots of your guides and i've found everything very helpful. I've managed to get mini vmac running, and i've installed stuffit 4.0.1 within mini vmac. I've been trying to play shadowgate (i've got a .sit file for this) which i've put on the drive--i can see it in the vmac desktop--but it doesn't appear when i run extract through stuffit (and I am unable to drag the .sit file onto the stuffit icon).

i've also tried expanding the (copied) shadowgate.sit file with stuffit 2010, but when i put this on the drive as well none of the files therein are open-able. what am I doing wrong?

The Stuffit archives may have been created with a later Stuffit version (Stuffit 5 ?) and thus cannot be extracted with Stuffit 4.

What is your host system? If you use Stuffit 2010 on Windows, the resulting files will have lost their Mac properties (like resource forks) and will be useless.

Ronald--

Thanks so much for your reply! I think you may be correct: do you know anyplace I could find Stuffit 5? On mini vmac I have System 6--would Stuffit 5 work on that (I've been using this guide http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/mini_vmac_setup)?

You're also right about my host system--I'm on a windows machine, and I'm glad I made backups of those files before trying to expand them!

Hi,

Stuff-it 5 is here: http://www.emaculation.com/basilisk/stu ... der_55.bin
However, please read the last posting in this thread: http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewto ... 1f2df1e426

As you already have that game, I placed V1.5 in an img file to keep things simple.
Please feel free to try. Just drag the image onto the open MiniVmac screen to mount it.

This works perfectly, thanks so much! I'm blown away by how quickly you all responded--I expected it to be very difficult to find help with this sort of thing.

P.S. How did you place these in an .img file? Once I work up the courage, I'd like to do the same for Uninvited--those games were vital to my childhood!

It is a rather easy fix really.
Many files for MiniVmac have been compressed with Stuffit5, don´t ask me why...
I have SheepShaver with Stuffit 5 and 7 running on my Mandriva host.
Within SheepShaver MiniVmac is executed with some performance loss, but fast enough for System6 things.
After downloading, you can inflate almost everything with SS. DiskCopy6 offers the option "create image from folder"
Thats all. DiskCopy images can be mounted with SS OR MiniVmac as needed, to move files to and fro.

Hi
I think I'm experiencing the same problem than the original poster.
I use Mini vMac and Stuffit 4.0.1 and followed all the (well done) tutorials. But the file shufflepuck.sit is not seen at all by stuffit (runned inside minivmac).
I downloaded shufflepuck cafe on macintoshgarden but ... cannot play.
Any way to get a .dsk file ?

thanks !

Get Basilisk II and extract from there . That's what I do . That's why I have an advantage , because I have Mini vMac , Basilisk II , SheepShaver and StuffIt in my host as well . Unlimited compatibility . If it's not a StuffIt 4 archive , just take it to Basilisk II or SheepShaver (with StuffIt 5) .

Please feel free to try this .img: Shuffle Puck and Suffle Puck Cafe included.

Anything else you would like to see as mountable image?

vMac SIT file Extraction

Post by ljzrelak »

I am having this problem as well for Capitalist Pig (really want to play this game again, it's been so long!). I realize it's probably a version issue, however, I have a new Mac that I downloaded Stuffit with and I was able to extract the SIT file and put it on a thumb drive. I then tried to use HFVExplorer to take the files that I expanded and add them to the disk image, but for some reason I get an error saying that the source code is invalid and so it will not copy it. I can copy the SIT file to the image no problem, but not the extract files so I feel I will more than likely run into this problem using Basilisk as well. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Would you like to look in this folder? http://www.mediafire.com/?j2bta8d8yxecw
There are some games I uploaded.
Capitalist Pig.img is a DiskCopy6 file, Capitalist Pig.img.sit is Stuffit3.6, Capitalist Pig.img.zip is - well, ZIP.
Hope you can use one of those. The img file can be mounted in the emulator with DiskCopy6, or from the host system
using the GUI.

Thank you for your quick reply! I'll give that a shot. I was actually able to get the program installed and "working" within Basilisk II, but unfortunately once I go to start the company the emulator freezes up on me. So close! Oh well. Thanks again!

That did the trick. I was able to get this working! I just wish it worked in Basilisk II since that supports color and a larger screen! Oh well, beggars can't be choosers I guess! Thank you again!

Hey, sorry not sure if this is where I should post this comment/question. I've been trying to get a few certain games to run in my mini vMac: GoldRush, King'sQuestIII, Life&Death, & WinterGames. I've found most of the correct files (I think) and have been racking my brain for days (again) trying to figure out how to make them run. I read TONS of posts and how-to's and downloaded StuffIt hfvExplorer and BasiliskII and still cannot figure out how to get them to work. Is there any way someone could make a dsk of any of these games for me?? It would be TRULY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

No problem, I copied the files in a DiskCopy6 image for you.
DC6 image: http://www.multiupload.com/QKB3JQDXIT
DC6 image deflated with Stuffit3.6: http://www.multiupload.com/DMIB5D97U0
Maybe you can make use of one of them. IMG is sometimes not well preserved on foreign file systems.
The sit file should be easily inflatable on Mac (emulator) with Stuffit (Expander) 3.6 or higher.
If you would prefer another compression (e.g. ZIP, RAR) or file hosting (e.g. Hotline), just let me know.

I've still been having trouble getting those games to run. I know i must be doing something wrong, but i was just wondering if it would be possible to post a couple dsks for me (GoldRush! and WinterGames). I got Lif&Death to work but for some reason i still cant expand the other 2 games. Thank you again. I just posted something similar to this on another post but I think it was for vmac instead of mini vmac. Again, i appreciate everything you all have done for me already and couldnt be more grateful

We don't like to provide that sort of thing on this site. But if you stop by Macintosh Garden and make a request you will likely get some help.

PS: You posted your question twice. Please just post one time... and don't be scared to create new topics in the forum.
