I have been trying for day to run Enchanted Scepters on an old iBook that is running OS 9.2.
No problem getting vmac running, and I have gotten a disk image of shareware games to mount and have played one of the games. But I cannot get Scepters to run! Ever time I try I get a prompt that tells me that the disk is locked, and I need to unlock it…
I wonder if the problem is that the copt of Scepters I am using is corrupt. I have seen some posts on various forums that mention that this can be a problem.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is? ANyone know where I might find a good copy of Enchanted Scepters? Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure that game is included on Macintosh Garden. Try the version there and let us know if it works.
Re: Enchanted Scepters & Mini VMac
That is the version I have tried to run. and I do not think it works. If everyone else has used it and has gotten it to work, then I am doing something wrong. Don't you just drop the disk image into the Mini vMac system 6 window?

Re: Enchanted Scepters & Mini VMac
I get the same message in System 6.0.8, but the image mounts fine (and the game is playable) in System 7.0.1. (Both in Mini vMac on OSX.)
The image is indeed read-only. When converted to read/write format, it does work in System 6.0.8 also. You can use Disk Copy in MacOS 9 to do that. Use Convert image.. from the Image menu in Disk Copy.

That may be the missing piece, doing the Disk Copy conversion. I will give it an try, and if it doesn't work, I'll bet using System 7 will. Thanks!

…and it was. I got it to work using System 7. Played Enchanted Scepters today for the first times since the mid-80s! Thanks so much for the help.

Re: Enchanted Scepters & Mini VMac
I may be wishing for too much here, but now that I've got Enchanted Scepters up and running on 7.0.1,
is there any chance of being able to save games in progress? If so, how?
When I go to "Save As" under "File," I can name my game, but "Save" is not given as an option.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Enchanted Scepters & Mini VMac
Might it be that you are running from a read only image? Please read up some posts above. If so, you might have to convert the image as described above.

Re: Enchanted Scepters & Mini VMac
thanks Cat_7.
I went to disk utility in OS X and converted the disk to read/write, and now I can save my games.
I'm sure this basic stuff to most, but I'm feeling very pleased with myself.
thanks again.
