Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications

Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
When I use ImportFL to copy applications (e.g. the Stuffit Installer) onto the emulated system upon double clicking the copied application it refuses to open seemingly not registering it as an application at all. The error display in System 6 is: 'The file "Stuffit Expander 401 Installer" could not be opened/printer (the application is busy or missing).'.
The Stuffit Expander Installer I am using is the one from this tutorial: http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/mini_vmac_setup.
Any ideas why it isn't recognizing it as an application?

Did you make sure to encode the files? See this post: http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewto ... tFL#p47216
Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
Thanks, whilst I hadn't encoded them it seems that the suggestions there require Stuffit Expander to be installed on the system already in order to decode them. Unfortunately I am not able to install Stuffit due to the issue.
Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
What is your host OS?
I uploaded Stuffit 4.5 to Macintoshgarden a long time ago.
The file is of sit type and contains a DiskCopy 4.2 image, which does mount fine in MiniVMac.
SIT can be xpanded easily on OSX with The Unarchiver. Stuffit 4.5 needs MacOS 7.1 though.
Maybe better try Stuffit 3.5.1 (Second DL) http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/stuffit-deluxe-351
The first serial from the V.3.5X section has been confirmed working many times.

Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
System 6.0.8 unfortunately, perhaps if there's an image for System 6 that'd work. Haven't seen one though.
Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
Made one.
3.5.1 is up as image, see above.
Sadly not all sit thingies from the Garden, will inflate with 3.5.
If you need a file badly, let me know, I´ll repackage it for 3.5 if needed.

Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
On the Gryphel Project (Mini vMac) site http://www.gryphel.com/ follow the links: Software > Archiving Software > Stuffit Expander and you will find Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 on a disk image that will mount in Mini vMac (drag the image file inside the running Mini vMac window).
(See note on that page about the need to press the command key when using Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 in System 6.)

Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
Thanks very much to the both of you for your help.
I've managed to get Stuffit installed using the image, thanks. Using ImportFL and Stuffit on the emulated system I've also been able to install a text editor too. I've also been trying to install MacPascal from http://macgui.net/downloads/?file_id=17744, however Stuffit doesn't recognize it as a valid archive and say it is corrupt. Any ideas?24bit wrote:Made one.

Made an entry at MG: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-pascal-73e
Hope that helps.
(In case you cant DL, use the Edit feature to get the file. No idea if this is needed with Knez´s server still.)
Hope that helps.

Thanks very much 24bit! Might I ask how you are packing them up in .img files compatible with Mini vMac?24bit wrote:Made an entry at MG: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-pascal-73e

The Unarchiver pretty much inflates anything in OSX 10.6 or higher.
With SheepShaver (or BasiliskII), files from OSX can easily be moved to SS´s emulated HDD.
DiskCopy6 makes NDIF images from folders or volumes with a few mouse clicks.
Thats it.

Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
In OSX there is no need to have a BasiliskII or SheepShaver setup to create a compatible disk image. HFS Disk Maker application by CharlesS can be used: http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewto ... f=1&t=8337
- Use "The Unarchiver" in OSX to decode and unpack the .sit.bin file
- Use HFS Disk Maker to put it on a HFS disk image*
- Mount the disk image in Mini vMac
This procedure can also be used with any archive, like an OSX zip archive, that cannot be properly decompressed with Stuffit or other decompress software that runs in old MacOS.
* Best choose an .img extension for the file name while saving the image file. If the file name does not have an extension, HFS Disk Maker will produce a verification error, although the file itself will be fine.

Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
Excellent, thanks very much for letting me know. Should make things easier now
Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
Always good to have more than one working solution for an issue.
For me Charles´s disk maker will not work, as I´m on 10.6.7 (32bit) mostly, with my T60 HackBook.
For Mavericks the app will be a nice addition for sure.

Re: Can't open Stuffit Installer nor other applications
I didn't realize HFS Disk Maker needs OSX 10.9. It does indeed not run in earlier OSX versions, even on a 64-bit machine. I suppose it is because it was compiled on 10.9.
