Frequent "~MacOS9BackgroundScript" aborts, error type 2 or 3

Post by mkrilano@silcom.com »

I'm running Edward Mendelson's excellent pre-packaged SheepShaver, from URL http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/macos9osx.html. My host is a late 2013 iMac (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5), running Yosemite 10.10.5.

I'm frequently interrupted by the message "The application '~MacOS9BackgroundScript' has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 2 [or 3] occurred."

I have several screen shots, but I don't know how to include them here (advice?).

It happens often enough that I can't tell you what operation triggers it.

How can I fix this, so I can keep working in Mac OS 9?

Thanks.

Until this gets moved to the proper forum, the answer (I'm sorry to say) is:

I have no idea of how to fix it. One possibility is this:

In Yosemite, open a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

cd ~/Documents/SendToMacOS9
ls -a
If any files are listed in the folder, delete them. They may be triggering the error in the background script.

If that doesn't help, maybe the best thing to is move the BackgroundActionScript out of the Startup Items in the System folder in SheepShaver. You'll lose the ability to drop files on the MacOS9 icon and copy them to the SheepShaver desktop, but you can live without that if you know how to use the Unix folder.

You might also want to try disabling some of the extensions and control panels in the Extensions Manager.

Also, if you downloaded the application more than a month ago, you might try the current version, which uses the latest version of SheepShaver.

I have opened a new topic for this question in viewforum.php?f=33

I don't know how to close this question in this forum. Any advice?

In response to emendelson's suggestions:

1. My SendToMacOS9 folder is empty.
2. I downloaded the application less than a month ago (on March 19).

I've now added a few lines to the background script that should make it more robust. At least it seems more stable now than it did before. Same download link as before.
