Running the same version of OS9, copied from my old iMac G3

About SheepShaver, a PPC Mac emulator for Windows, MacOS X, and Linux that can run System 7.5.3 to MacOS 9.0.4.

Running the same version of OS9, copied from my old iMac G3

Post by BenViolin »

Hi there,

I was wondering if it's possible to run a hard drive clone copy of my old iMac G3 hard drive. The hard drive is partitioned into OS9 and OSX. I am happy to just copy old files across from the OSX bit but I would like to run the OS9 partition within my Mac Book Pro. This way I can access the same programs and projects. I assume otherwise I will need to install afresh the old software I used to use within a new version of OS9 inside Sheepshaver.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks

Ben

Hi,

Part of the answer lies in the question which Mac OS 9 version you are running. Anything above 9.0.4 will not run with SheepShaver.
Perhaps you can also install a clean Mac OS 9.04 in SheepShaver and run your programs in that. (if they do not need a higher version).

Qemu, however, might run both OSX (10.3?) and Mac OS above 9.0.4 if needed. You would need to test whether a disk copy would actually boot with Qemu.
