Basilisk 1?

What was Basilisk 1?
EDIT: This must be a common question but when I searched for it in the forum it said the search was too vague or the words were too common to get any results, something like that.

I do not recall anyone asking this question in the 15 years that I am actively involved with this forum. Frankly, I never wondered myself if there ever was a Basilisk I.

Maybe the "II" refers to Macintosh II. Basilisk II is the successor of ShapeShifter, which was a Macintosh II emulator for AmigaOS.

There was an emulator by the same creator just called "Basilisk."

It was a Mac Classic emulator for BeOS.

Well, it is worth mentioning that it predated Mini vMac by many years.

I think it likely predated the original vMac by a few months as well.

And it was for a different platform as well. As stated, Basilisk was only for BeOS. I don't recall that being a target platform for vMac or the stripped down and much improved child, Mini vMac.

Basilisk II was the cross-platform rewrite that added a Quadra reference platform to the existing Classic one.

And of course, vMac only emulated the Mac Plus, not the Classic.
