Persistent CD disc icon on desktop

Post by kwnz »

I cannot find anything similar to this in this forum. Recently a CD icon has appeared on my (SheepShaver OS 9.04 desktop, hosted by Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on 2006 MacBook 1.1). It has the same name as the startup hard drive (macOS9HD) and is the same size (1GB) although empty. I did not put it there, but I have an open mind. It seems harmless just sitting there but to me annoying, especially as it will not eject. Even more annoying is when attempting to eject this it immediately disappears and adds another named "AudioCD 1" ejecting this causes "AudioCD 1" to be replaced by "Audio CD 2" and so on and so on...
As I mentioned it appears to be harmless but I like things to be right and just want it gone. Any ideas? Hope I made all this clear, will answer any questions as best I can. Thank you.

Please post here the content of the SheepShaver prefs file, so we can see what may be wrong in your settings:

Launch Terminal (in /Application/Utilities/) and type at the prompt

Code: Select all

open ~/.sheepshaver_prefs
followed by a return.
The file will open in your default text editor. Select all content and copy and paste it here in your reply.

You have three disk images in the volumes list in SheepShaver Preferences:

1. A disk "MacOS9HD" in the SheepShaver folder
This would be your startup disks, unless this file is not available. If this file is not available, the next MacOSHD2 will be your startup disk.

2. A disk "MacOSHD2" in the SheepShaver folder
See comment above

3. A cd-rom "MacOS9" in the SheepShaver folder
Not sure what that is. Is it a MacOS installation CD-image?

Anyway, go to SheepShaver preferences and remove the cd-rom image file from the list.

SOLVED
Apologies for the late reply due to time difference in New Zealand.
How stupid of me not to notice this during setup. It was indeed the Retail CD (physical) which must have been in the optical drive at the time. So removing this as to your direction all is now normal.

As a side note My daughter who coincidentally lives in Hertogenbosch tells me I should say :-
Dank u wel.
