Yes there is a way to exchange the qemu build and leave the installation intact. However, the experimental sound builds only support 9.2/10.0 reasonably well.
Audio in 10.4 will be crackling.
If you want, you can give it a try. You need to download the latest experimental build from here:

In fact, what you need from the download are the qemu-system-ppc-screamer program and one file from the pc-bios folder called openbios-ppc.
You need to put the openbios-ppc file in your local pc-bios folder. Please keep a backup of the current file, as your current qemu-system-ppc will not boot with the new openbios-ppc file in case you want to switch back.
Then change your boot script to point to qemu-system-ppc-screamer and you should be good to go.
