getting started
https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/ba ... _osx_setup
- Click “Create”
- Navigate to the folder you want to create the file in
- Give the file a name, name it “MacOS753”
- Set the size for the hard disk. I would recommend 500 or 1000 Mb
how do I do this? Not seeing a way/button/method to do this.
Then, under Unix root - Put an OS X path here to share it with Basilisk.
What does that mean?
MacMini Intel Big Sur.
- Click “Create”
- Navigate to the folder you want to create the file in
- Give the file a name, name it “MacOS753”
- Set the size for the hard disk. I would recommend 500 or 1000 Mb

Re: getting started
Do you use the latest beta version (version 0.18) of the BasiliskII GUI?- Click “Create”
- Navigate to the folder you want to create the file in
- Give the file a name, name it “MacOS753”
- Set the size for the hard disk. I would recommend 500 or 1000 Mb
how do I do this? Not seeing a way/button/method to do this.
If you click "Create", you wil get a Create/Save dialog with at the bottom a slider that allows you to choose a size for the new disk image.
It means that you should use the Browse button to find and add the path to your shared folder as explained in the setup manual. Then, under Unix root - Put an OS X path here to share it with Basilisk.
What does that mean?

Re: getting started
I do have the b.18.
Is my Basilisk folder built correctly?
I've tried a few ROMs that I found. So far 4 have made Basilisk quit.

Re: getting started
The images confuse me. In the top one the BasiliskII folder seems to be in a user directory, but the paths in the other image point to an external disk. You now also use a different ROM file. Is this the one downloaded from Redundant Robot?
The volumes setup seems OK. I do not know if the path to the ROM file is set correctly in the System tab in the GUI.
If "Start" does not work, you can also save the settings, quit the GUI, and launch BasiliskII directly.
Some reported issues with my latest universal build on Intel machines. You can try my 21 April 2021 Intel-only build instead. (It has a minor issue with the caps-lock key not working.) https://www.emaculation.com/basilisk/Ba ... 210421.zip

Re: getting started
OK. Had some path issues as you pointed out. I have OS7.5.3 installed (weeeeee!).
I'm trying to extract info from an old app, DayMaker v3.
I have the .sit for that in the same folder (as you can see), but Basilisk doesn't see it.
So how do I launch/install DayMaker in Basilisk now?
Another path issue?

Re: getting started
Hi,
Did you take the file from the Unix drive and put it on the desktop? If so, that will not work as technically it is still on the Unix disk.
You should put the file on your hard disk MacOS753 and expand it there.
Best,
Cat_7

Thanks, that expanded it, but ....
Any suggestions? The install came from Mac Gardens.

Re: getting started
Use this procedure:
- Unstuff the "DayMaker_3.03_Installer.sit" archive on the host.
(You can use "The Unarchiver", which will expand most archive formats, including Stuffit: https://theunarchiver.com )
- Use the BasiliskII GUI to add the "DayMaker Organizer™.image" to the volumes list.
- At next launch of BasiliskII, the "DayMaker Organizer" disk will appear on the desktop and you can run the installer on it.

Re: getting started
Hi Ronald,
That worked a champ.
Fun to see OS7 again, the 2nd OS I used.
I will note that this Mini8,1 is way faster than my IIci was. (giggle giggle giggle giggle)
Must be something in the water.
DayMaker is alive.
How do I get it to see/open my old files?
They are currently in a folder in the Unix folder.
Same procedure, add with the GUI, or ...?

Re: getting started
Are the files on a disk image? Adding in the GUI is the best way for disk images.
Are the files in an archive? Expand the archive first on the host, then put the files in a folder in the shared folder.
Document files can usually be opened from "Unix" (and saved to "Unix").

Re: getting started
have you any suggestions for importing the DayMaker exported file to Big Sur calendar?
The export can be tab, comma or return delimited.
Perhaps there is an interim app to make it "palatable" to Calendar...

Re: getting started
Calendar can open/import (and export) .ics calendar files. The format was created in 1998, so I suppose DayMaker will not export .ics files. See: https://fileinfo.com/extension/ics
You could export an .ics file from Calendar, open it in a text editor, and study the content to see how it relates to a file exported from DayMaker. Possibly .csv to .ics converters exist that can help with a conversion.

Re: getting started
Go Basilisk II running:
The Disk Tools 1 contains the system software and fills the entire disk so I can not copy over anything to the disk since it is full.
I did make the unix drive as outlined in the setup procedures.
How do I increase the disk that contains the system software? I think I need more space in order to add stuffit expander correct?
Pretty neat!

Re: getting started
You are not supposed to copy anything to the Disk Tools disk. That disk is only needed as initial startup disk and should be removed after a proper System installation,
Which manual do you follow for the setup?

Re: getting started
Yes I did not completely finish in stall. My bad. But I have since run it and everything works and I install 7.5.3 on the MacOS753.dsk. I deleted the reference to Disktools MacOS8 and OS753installer but system not starting up I and am getting the disk with the flashing question mark as if there is no system to start up.
Followed this procedure:

Re: getting started
Well, then setup was not done correctly. Maybe the 7.5.3 installation was not executed correctly, maybe some other mistake.
Please post here the content of your BasiliskII prefs file so we can see your settings:
Launch Terminal (in /Application/Utilities/) and type at the prompt followed by a return.
The file will open in your default text editor. Select all content and copy and paste it here in your reply.

Sorry, my bad.
The name of the file is ~/.basilisk_ii_prefs not ~/.basilisk_ii-prefs
